It should be retured to the Lakota tribe. Just the same as all art treasures should be returned to their countries of origin. The age of looting and pillaging is over already
The property recently was put on the market by its private owner, James Czywczynski of Rapid City, S.D. Though the land has an assessed value of less than $14,000, Czywczynski has set a $4.9 million asking price.
Czywczynski told the media network that his top priority is that whoever purchases the land donate it to the tribe.
“I really don't care who buys it and donates it to the Oglala Sioux Tribe as long as somebody does it,” he said. “Johnny Depp has a lot of money. He could probably raise this money in a heartbeat. So I was kind of glad to see some national and international exposure.”
Why doesn't the damn Fool donate the Property to the Tribe himself?

Probably because he is with the rival Czywczynski tribe
KIBALUV: Wounded Knee is being sold, but I think it should be returned to the Lakota people, since it is rightfully their land.
I think they should first pass around the peace pipe, and when the smoke begins to rise, it will be a sign. The only question to ask is " how, how, how, how, how"
Ccincy: "“Just like any native land it should be given to the Lakota people.”"
Doesnt the whole of America count for that?
Yes Adalstef it sure does. From I read Indian land treaties haven't been honored to any tribe regardless of where they are since 1877.If my memory serves me correctly.
A lot of land was placed in trust for the Indians. Some like my Great-Grandfather was allotted to him by the U.S.Goevernment and signed by the President of the United States.
If said Indian couldn't pay taxes the land was taken back by each state and sometimes were sold off as private property etc.
Quoting galards:Who did the American Indians take this land from?
From I understood that any land that Native Americans had originally belong to the United States and under the land treaties it then put in trust or given to them by the United States.
The Cherokee Indians fought in the civil war on the side of the confederates, after the war they were the only ones who had land taken off them as a punishment, Oklahoma land rush !!!

How could the land belong to the United States, when they were there maybe 40 thousand years before the United States were even thought of,

@arapaho There's also a link I posted a few pages back regarding on how the United States Bureau of Indian Affairs had land treaties with the Native Americans. That's just how the U.S. did things way back then by taking/stealing land from the Indians.
I have a land allotment form which states Dated July 6,1871 land was issued to my Great-Grandfather under the July 31,1855 treaty where the United States had given him being the head of the household 80 acres of land and to each single person 21 years of age,40 acres of land to be selected and located within the several tracts of land described in said treaty, under the rules and regulations prescribed in said first article. It was signed Ulysses S.Grant President of the United States, have cause these letters to be Land Patent and the seal of the General Land Office to be hereunto affixed.Given under my hand at the City of Washington this thirteenth day of January in the year of our lord one thousand and twenty two and of the Independence of the United States the ninety sixth. It's signed by President U.S.Grant.

JeanKimberley: why can't the Lakota tribe buy it?
The Lakota tribe is one of the poorest tribes in the nation. The government has treated them harshly, cut off their water supply and taken their children. April of last year, CPS removed 5,000 children from their homes at the Reservation stating they could not live in such conditions, having no water. The government created the condition in which to take the children. grrrrrr!

He should proceed with his plan but also donate the monies from the sale to the Lakota tribe!
