I've had a German Shepherd, Portuguese Mountain Dog (enormous creatures), a Chihuahua and now a little Yorkshire Terrier. I'm afraid I'm a bit of a nutter where animals of all shapes, sizes and species are concerned...

Animals have been a part of my life since I was a wee tot. But the one dog that I loved the most, that I still think is the most beautiful and regal of them all is...the Irish Setter.
He was strong. The children in the neighborhood would ride him like a horse. I would put his leash on, strap up my rollerskates, and he'd pull me up and down the streets. Although he didn't hunt, he had the instinct to point in him. He'd point at any butterfly that fluttered by.

I did, he's exactly the same as my very first dog. He was a Labrador, German Shepherd cross, even the white marking down his front is the same.

I know of someone here in Ohio who has a Great Dane and Lab mixed and that pup eats the guy out of house and home.
there are useful dogs like the maremma that will sit by a sick sheep until help arrives, or come and tell you, useful

I have had several Westies during my life with dogs, also Standard/Rough Collies (Lassie-type).
I also like border collies/sheepdogs, tibetan terriers, long-haired alsatians.... in fact, I am absolutely soppy about all dogs. I am a person that does need a dog in my life, for a balanced equilibrium and there is a marked distinction without one. Sadly, I am unable to have a pooch at the mo, but one day....

Awwwww..Talking about pets brought something back to mind again.I'll never forget the time when my guy and I adopted a 15 yr old soon to be 16 yr old Mini Schnauzer who had been neglected by the previous owner.
Come to find out he had an enlarged heart.WE did all we could for him but Sept 10 of 2012 since the meds weren't no longer helping him we had no choice but put him to sleep.
I just hope the prior owner receives a lot better care someday if and when he needs it then he gave Prince.Prince hadn't been taken to the vet in many many many years by his former owner.
Our pets are more loyal then some humans are.And that wouldn't take much.Sometimes I'd much have a dog for a friend then a human.
I still have pics of him in my pics on my computer.
