MADDOG69: Voice, behaviour. And they probably know her. I guessed correctly a traveller on here from their voice and even before that I had a hint from the appearance. It's hard to pin it down in words but the original stock of traveller that broke away from the population carried with them a small sample of features. Something about the cheekbones, and eyes. Also Irish traveller women have generous chest sizes aswell. I've never seen a flat chested Pavee woman. lol
So it's a dialect then? And what type of behaviours would identify a Traveler from for example, Me, if the two of us were standing next to each other in a shop? The chests....a lot of us are ample in chest.

Travellers have an accent. They even have that Accent strained into the Travellers in America. And they left here 100+ years ago I imagine lol. Like I said, it's hard to put into words.

Like Kennn, I had never heard the term Traveller or knew anything about them before these threads. To the best of my knowledge, I haven't met any here in Missouri or Illinois. When I lived in Germany, I assumed the caravans I saw off in the distant fields were Roma gypsies.
Ya could have picked more flattering examples of Traveller women than them.
Anyway, some of them have strong brows. Sets them apart. And before they're married (and sometimes after) they dress rather tacky, in my opinion. They overdo the makeup and hair dye. You'll get that in Northern Irish women a lot, as well. Fake tan, half inch of foundation, drawn in Eyebrows, and two strips of carpet for eyelashes. etc etc
2girlsnocup: Your profile clearly states you're not working. You can't blame the pub landlords or shop owners. You can only blame TRAVELLERS. The few have created the problem that the masses have to suffer for. Maybe try and see if you can show the shopkeepers and the like, that not all travellers will steal or get too drunk and fight anyone that looks at them wrong.
It's in the same way that the local newsagents has a sign in the door stating that schoolchildren are not allowed in without an adult. Do the rest of the schoolchildren moan about being bunched in with a few thieves? No, they go and either get their sweets elsewhere, or ask someone to go in for them.
..............

rizlared: Now you really are stretching the truth, the picture you show is a static caravan on a private holiday camping site in Scotland.
Why would a TRAVELLER live in a static van when the w beinhole idea isg able to move around the country looking for seasonal work?
there was a lady on here that didn't know what travelers were or what they lived in so i got a photo on the internet to show her and to give her a little idea what they live in...what have i done wrong by doing that?????????????????????????????????????????

Wrong again, at least be specific, the law let anyone travel on the road as long as the vehicle is insured and taxed.
The law does not let people park on private property, or set up camp by the side of the road which is dangerous to other road users.
RoseaBellBlues: ..........lady he cant answer hem self.
the only way you can tell is when i talk, my voice is quite deep that's how you could tell im the traveler and your not by your voice thats the only behavior....................
Well around here you can tell someone is a traveller a mile away by the way they dress.
But of course you'll say I'm wrong in that as well I suppose.
RoseaBellBlues: Then in 1979 a Traveller woman, Roselle McDadd took Dublin County Council to court of for evicting her 22 times from one roadside camp to another in the previous 12 months. She got a high court ruling later upheld by the Supreme court that a local area could not evict travellers from its land without providing a reasonable alternative. This had the effect of stopping constant evictions which were a cause of enormous hardship.
However Local Areas soon found ways of forcing families out of camps by dumping clay and rubbish all around them and by generally making life so unpleasant for them that they were forced to move.
RoseaBellBlues: There is 40% more side needed for travelers to live in. They are not a lout to live on the side off the road and the council will not build any sides for travelers and gypsy. travelers buy there own land that they could build SOMEhouses on. The ones that did NOT break the law was put off there own land and had there homes broken up on them. no settle people wants gypsy to live beside them there for they are ran out off there houses.
my family and i was ran out off 3 houses.our house was put on fire twice. SO tell me where can traverses live that is safe with running water,B.S.B and can put there kids to school.
There is now over 80 family's form Dale farm with no where to live. whats right about that?
RoseaBellBlues: i was tolled on here if you cant get into shops, pubs and so on why dont yous builted your own???
The first travellers school was built in Cherry Orchard by the travellers there. It lasted only a matter of weeks before being bulldozed by the corporation. A series of protest meetings and marches were held throughout the country by the Irish travellers community culminating in a major convention at Ballinasloe fair in 1962 at which Lawerence Ward chaired the proceedings. A committee was elected and over the following year evictions were resisted and demands for decent facilities and civil rights were put forward.
This campaign attracted considerable radio publicity and the government became very anxious to smash the movement which was becoming more militant and well organised then they had thought travellers were capable of. Interestingly attempts were made early on to establish links with the trade union movement. There is a record of an appeal by Gloray Conners to members of IMETU who were about to carry out an eviction if Ballyfermot to consider their common interests and to refuse to evict
In 1963 Grattan Puxen was arrested and charged with having explosives. It was later proved that these explosives had been planted on him by the Gardai. He was released on bail and given the choice of leaving the country r serving a long jail sentence. He left in late 1963. Almost all of the activists of the Irish traveller community left with him and went on to form the Gypsy Council in England. The names of Irish travellers can be seen in the leadership of the Gypsy Council over the next decade until it became victim to internal feuding.
