2girlsnocup: Here's an illegal site that a local authority is having to spend "£2 million on to make it a legal site.
The 'travellers' had been there for two years, and seemed content as they'd not moved on, so why should the money be spent?

Especially when there are plenty of sites in the UK as of 2011,

it lovely?

Phew.. that looks like a shocking way to live... reminds me of going camping in the school holidays and having rain... and after a day of that... packing up and going home..

I guess that respectfully, I just don't understand how anyone could choose that for a life... sorry. sigh

There is 40% more side needed for travelers to live in.
They are not a lout to live on the side off the road and the council will not build any sides for travelers and gypsy. travelers buy there own land that they could build SOMEhouses on. The ones that did NOT break the law was put off there own land and had there homes broken up on them.
no settle people wants gypsy to live beside them there for they are ran out off there houses.

my family and i was ran out off 3 houses.our house was put on fire twice.
SO tell me where can traverses live that is safe with running water,B.S.B and can put there kids to school.

There is now over 80 family's form Dale farm with no where to live. whats right about that?

furryflaps: I have to disagree with you here..Ive lived in tallaght last 30 years and where i am theres plenty of settled travellers..My neighbours are travellers and have been here 20 years now.Off hand i can think of at least 20 settled traveller families living in our estate alone. They dont get treated any different to us.Their kids go to same school as all ours.A lot of them drink in our local and have done for years.Maybe years ago it was like that here but not now.At same time there was a field across from us and every so often we wake up to find it full of caravans.Thats when there would be trouble.Their younger ones were robbing clothes off washing line , kids toys out of gardens and the place was filthy with dirt they left lying around. And as soon as police and council moved them on ,which often took weeks ,it was back to normal.Theres good and bad in every race but your starting to play the victim a bit much now.Tell the truth or just drop it.

im only giving people the history and the facts on what happen 100s off years go and still is happening to date. travelers are the highest to be discriminated by in Ireland. that's a TACT!! so love before you go tell people im lying look the history and the facts and you will see who is lying!!

FACTS - of course, it is only from the University of Limerick website.

Irish Travellers are an indigenous minority or ethnic group who make up less than 1% of the population in Ireland. They number approximately 28,000 people in the Republic of Ireland and 1500 in Northern Ireland. There are also large Irish Traveller communities in Britain and North America. Their family structure, nomadism, employment patterns and language are all distinctive and have ensured their survival as a minority group on the margins of Irish mainstream society for generations. There is little information or research available on the question of Traveller origins and a range of theories have been put forward by scholars including the possibility that they are the descendants of travelling bards who were joined by families who “took to the road” because of eviction, war, famine and the social upheaval that was a consequence of colonisation.

Travellers are synonymous with self-employment, occupational flexibility and nomadism. In the nineteenth century tinsmithing was a trade that was particularly associated with Travellers. This gave rise to the sobriquet “tinker” which is now often used only in a derogatory sense. Tinsmithing was only one trade that was synonomous with Travellers however. They are also horse-dealers and recyclers and are synonymous today with activities such as market trading, scrap collection, tarmacking, the resale of secondhand goods, tree-topping and landscaping.

Historically, Travellers have been largely invisible among the Irish poor but their language, known as Cant or Gammon, shows evidence of bardic influences, indicating that some of their ancestors may have belonged to bardic families that played in a central role in Gaelic culture prior to the imposition of colonisation. The fact that Travellers is how the group refers to themselves is indicative of the importance of travelling or nomadism in Traveller culture.

Thats the way it used to be, most of them are in houses now supplied by the Co Council.
The ones that still go around in caravans ofton park in private land or public parks and leave rubbish and a mess behind them which the councils have to clean up at a cost to the taxpayer.

Contrary to what the OP would have people who don't know the full fact believe travellers are well looked after here, but they don't see the point in staying in education and the girls ofton get married way too early, between 16 and 18 and are not encouraged to go to collage and build a career for themselves.

There is no smoke without fire, as I said before, if Irish travellers wish to live as they did in the 19th century, they cannot complain if they are treated by 19th century laws and opinions.
Its your choice, live with it or change your life style to those of the 21st century!!
