You can train your mind to be virtuous, and a virtuous mind is a healthy mind.

Descartes believed that statement referred to a fundamental truth, in fact it contains a most basic error. He was equating thinking with being and identity with thinking.

Thought needs consciousness, but consciousness doesn't need thought.

You can train a healthy mind towards a positive and healthy attitude, but like our bodies,..minds are subject to illness and unhealthy states....this requires more than "training"....you can train for an attitude,...but health could be a different matter...I cannot train my body to be cancer free, not can I train my mind NOT to be afflicted with an illness...not sure if I am making any sense...

''smiles'' i didn't really know what it meant, maybe it sounds good.

is fear defeated by faith?

There are some clinical scientists who believe that many illnesses are in fact a product of the mind, the body's reaction to the mind could be far greater than we ever imagined.

Fear is defeated by the truth, faith most often ignores the truth.

And with that I will most certainly agree, but as with all things...a single avenue approach may not be the best. If I have been told I have a mental illness I should realize that it may take more than self-training to rectify or control the illness.

As a child I used to hear the term "they worried themselves sick" I can believe this. Can we "train" our minds to be "healthy?" We can certainly influence the state of wellness that exists within out mind....but to what degree and extent remains, imho, open to debate

imo time changes the mind and actions in a lot of people, imo the mind and body are linked in ways. imo we have a hidden connection to energy and this universe that will be revealed from imo a creator

Hey bro! I am not disagreeing! The mind has a huge influence on its own health....all I am saying is that there have been times I was not able to train my mind properly and needed to seek help elsewhere...

Can a person train themselves to play hockey? Yes....but not totally...training is a mutli-facted regime!

cheers

can life be worked out in mathimathics?

This has been accounted for multiple times. There have been plenty of case studies where doctors administered sugar pills to patients but allowing them to believe it was a medicine, who in turn claimed that the "medication" was working. Psychological treatments.

Sorry Pedro...this doesn't relate to your question posed

Yes. Or at least as to where we have taken it so far.

This could result in a doctoral thesis....lol!

Yes, the placebo effect is well known. But can you "train" a mind to be "healthy?" - and I would believe this demands a definition as to what Healthy is...

Well, I have trained my mind to heal my body...still working on training my mind to heal itself. laugh

Joking aside, if we were to repetitively give thought as to how our day should be the moment we awaken, is in a sense, a method of mind healing/reconditioning of better-mental thinking. Still phycological, however, but I think it is in the same direction of gaining a healthy mind. We hear "Mood reflects mood" and "Think positive" quite often, but if we put that to daily practice does it really pay off? I think it does in some cases--to those who have the will to believe, or have faith in it.

The only definition to "healthy" that comes to mind (pun intended) is one having complete control of their faculties at all times. This may not be an easy task for everyone, unfortunately.

This made me think of placebo...some sick people are treated this way, got cured... believing is one way of curing.
I have a friend who worked in the house of aged..everynight she makes the round in distributing water with drops of syrup...which the aged, believed to be sleeping drops...if not nobody sleeps.. yes minds can be worked out...in good or bad..

Actually, Doctor Timothy Francis Leary believed you could (and without government assistance) until he died..... sad flower

The popularized catchphrase that promoted his philosophy, such as "turn on, tune in, drop out", "set and setting", and "think for yourself and question authority" is in great contrast to today's views on government dependency Europe has adopted... Hopefully America avoids this for the rest of my lifetime anyway.
