A number of times I've seen where one parent wasn't able to raise the kids. Often due to being absent in one way or another, drugs/alcohol, work, illness, etc. For some reason they just aren't capable of being there all the time, or occasionally not at all. Not right, or fair, but sometimes it's the way it is.
Hopefully you have a supportive family and friends.

I couldn't answer your poll as you didn't give proper options.
Anyway for what it's worth I'm a Father and while I don't live with the kids I have raised them and since we seperated 7 years ago I have spoken to them every day and see them at least 2/3 times a week.
My ex is not alone in raising our children.

Indeed, I so dislike it when people tag me as a 'single mother'. I look at them, go all frosty, raise my eyebrow and they cannot cope, so they become all insulting by stating that I am rude. I so love it, when a person tells me what I am.
I am a mother, nothing singular about that.
And yes we do owe it to our children, I absolutely agree.
