Once when I was 18, I was crossing a highway (on foot) and I was hit by a car that was doing 40 mph. I crunched in the fender, bounced across the hood leaving 2 serious dents, and broke out the windshield with my arm and shoulder and bent the very strong windshield post into a V shape.
I flew through the air for over 50 feet from the point of impact, landed in the roadway, lept up instantly and lunged to the side of the road, and collapsed in a heap.

I was unconscious and near death for a couple of minutes. I didn't feel any pain at all and I was given a choice to either die or continue living. I decided to keep living. Immediately I was conscious again and hurting like hell. An ambulance took me to the hospital thinking that I was dying.

The car was a wreck. But I only had a seriously dislocated kneecap and a few minor cuts and scrapes.

A policeman told me that they found a piece of flesh inside the car that was much larger than all of my cuts put together. No idea where it came from. I wore a cast for 6 weeks and limped for about a year after that.

A witness to the accident (who knew me) called my girlfriend that afternoon and told her that I was dead. She called my house that evening to ask my parents when the funeral would be held and I answered the phone myself.
