Sometimes.... yes... sometimes.....NO... but just because you think he may not have anwsered your prayers doesn't mean that He is not planning to, or hasn't anwsered them... just we don't realize it...
Just trust Him and know that he knows what He is doing, somethings are just beyond man's comprehension...JMO
here is a song as an example(country)
Garth Brooks........unanwsered prayers
Garth Brooks --- Unanswered Prayers ( Album: No Fences ) Just the other night at a hometown football game My wife and I ran into my old high school flame And as I introduced them the past came back to me And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be
She was the one that I'd wanted for all times And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine And if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back then I'd never ask for anything again
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
She wasn't quite the angel that I remembered in my dreams And I could tell that time had changed me In her eyes too it seemed We tried to talk about the old days There wasn't much we could recall I guess the Lord knows what he's doin' after all
And as she walked away and I looked at my wife And then and there I thanked the Good Lord For the gifts in my life
Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered... Some of God's greatest gifts are too often unanswered... Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers
If she wanted prayer so that she would sing well in order to impress people, yes, that's a bit strange.
But if she wanted prayer for courage and strength to overcome stagefright, that's something entirely different.
God wants us to call on him for things, as long as our motives are good.
He won't answer prayers based on pride, selfishness, envy, hatred, greed, lust etc.
He will answer prayers based on love, forgiveness, repentence, etc. Jas 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Mt 6:5 And when thou prayest, be not as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
I believe that any request that is believed and held reverent can be answered. Although, when there are other people involved then what their wishes and beliefs are regarding the prayerful request may alter your request. We only really have power and responsibility over ourselves.
Prayer is a plea/request to a higher power and will be answered according to your own belief in that power. It is a working thought through the Mind of God. Perhaps when a prayer is shared with enough people and also with the person concerned about, then what we deem as a miracle or our prayer answered, can come about.
I believe the Bible is packed full of metaphors and psychology. It is a book that is not meant to be taken literally at all. Because it was written metaphorically is the reason it has lasted so long as a guide.
We set about in our sharing Mind of God things that we want all the time and when we focus on them with belief held and desire enough we manifest those things. Those are all prayerful wants and desires.
Yes, absolutely our prayers are answered one way or another. Watch what you focus your mind on.
morgan5: Hi wixie It is something i will never understand to happen once i could cope with, but twice is too much .
Everybody is different and has different life experiences, I can only speak from my own and I have had more than my fair share. I only know and believe that God is in control of all His Creation. I don't profess to understand it at all, but I know and can see what He has done for me in my life. I can only be thankful and try to live my life in a way that is pleasing to my Creator. All too often I fail, knowing what God expects from me and how I have lived my life. But, God is loving and merciful in way's I can't comprehend, and all any of us can do, is our best. I leave all the details to God. He is the only one who has all the answer's since He is the author of all the question's.

you are a lovely man wixie, thank you for listening to my rant
morgan5: you are a lovely man wixie, thank you for listening to my rant
I don't know how lovely a man I am, but, I do know you were not ranting. You were only asking a question that many of us ask, myself included....Why do bad things happen to good people? The answer is, there is no clear cut answer. On a personal level, a lot of bad and good things have happened to me in my life time and I can not say why. I have some answer's looking back in retrospect and some of them I wish I did'nt know. But in my case, I believe God has given me the grace to accept what I have learned and a opportunity to do something constructional with the knowledge He has given me. I only wish I was bright enough to use that knowledge the way He intended for me. Again, a lot of times I fail. But, that is what is great about our Heavenly Father! He understands that we will fail and He loves us anyway and continues to encourage us and give us opportunities to do better; just like you or I would to our own children.
bodleing: Well this young persons prayers were certainly not answered.BOY KILLED IN HIT AND RUN ON WAY HOME
Monday May 4,2009
THE parents of an 11-year-old boy killed by a hit-and-run driver yesterday paid tribute to their “lovable and hugely popular” son.
Sam Riddall died after a car ploughed into a group of friends walking home from a church youth service.
Not to worry, G. It's all part of God's inscrutable plan.
Like the OP's situation. God gave her cancer, and then healed her. The least he could do, in my opinion. I mean, if I broke someone's leg, I would expect to bear the expenses for repairing it, no?
I am here, Chuckie is still well in Afghanistan, and my son with Sickle cell is still here. I say he answers prayers. He does make you wait on some stuff though, and sme stuff he says no to because you are not suppose to have it.

Okay, sometimes this prayer thing can turn tragic. Like the old spinster in the old folks' home slowly and painfully dying. Why? Because not enough people prayed for her. Sure, she prayed, too, but her mind's pretty much gone, so it's doubtful that her prayers are particularly coherent. She needed prayers from others to convince God to act, but the final tally just didn't make the grade.
NAKEDMUDPEOPLE: My brother was suffering with cancer. The meds. caused boils all over his body. He was at deaths door. His life had been one of suffering. He was talking to a shrink when I arrived, the only thing he wanted to do before he died was see his children he has not seen in 11 years. Oh, I prayed for him. I asked the lord to take him or give him a life worth living. He is in remission and living with his ex wife and loving his children. Yes, my prayer was answered.
Hmmmm...so what if you hadn't prayed for him? What God have let him die?
So you believe you hold the power of life and death over others, Naked?
Well, let me put it this way. I'm afraid not to believe in Him. I just don't put all the weight on the guy. When I was a young child I was raised as a Lutheran. I was forced to go to Sunday School and when my mother insisted that I go to church as an adult, I dressed up and went to my boyfriend's house. Later on I wanted to go to church but when the church said I had to give a certain amount of money in the collection plate I decided I wanted out.
If I'm asked do I believe in God...yes I do. But not to the point that I would get on my knees and beg for mercy. Even if my daughter's life was at stake, I truly don't believe that way up there above the clouds there is a figment of the brainwashing I learned that will save her life.
My husband, who was an athesist, told me that he wanted proof that there is a God. But he also told me that when he was in a foxhole he was scared and prayed to God to keep him safe.

God did the same for me! I have had TB, Polio, Cancer, a major Heart Attack last year and a auto accident that by all right's should have killed me, and yet, God delivered me. He has also given me a healthy son and daughter and that, in a way you would not believe. The first best friend I ever had was taken at a young age, my brother's first wife. She was the first person to ever be there for me on a personal level, without any attached condition. If I needed help with school work, she was there! If I just needed someone to talk too, she was there. Whatever the occasion and for no occasion at all...she was there. She and my brother came down with pneumonia at the same time. God took her and spared my brother. Why? My brother was still in the hospital when she was buried. Why? She left 2 babe's behind. Why? I don't have the answer for those questions, but, I do know that my life was blessed for the short time she was around me...and not only me, but everyone who knew her. All I know is that bad alway's accompanies good, and you have to accept them both.

You're a rather complex - or dare I say, "dualistic"? - lady, Snuggie. (Can I call you "Snuggie," btw?)
Anyway, you sound like an atheist who's somewhat intimidated by Pascal's Wager...

Ambrose2007: I was just now praying that you would say that, J! (Now I'm almost a believer the power of prayer.)
I think you know me well enough to know my position on this... I´m not going to be down on my knees praying when I could actually be doing something usefull...
I do believe in the power of our brains however... so much is untapped and unknown about our brains, who knows what we really are capable of... perhaps prayer is just a way of focusing thoughts and brain power to achieve what it is we desire.

I'm not sure why, but I just had this memory of a mouse my cat caught one day. She mauled and bit and battered that poor mouse within an inch of its life. Then she (my cat) appeared to grow bored and watched with apparent disinterest as the mouse clawed and scrabbled its way to safety.
I always wondered if the mouse felt grateful for my cat's tender mercies...

I'm gonna test that out, JB, and pray that a particular someone will go down on her knees, and...do something useful.
wixomwizard: Sometimes God say's YES, sometimes He say's NO, sometimes He say's WAIT. God alway's answer's, but not in our time frame or according to our will, AND WE MIGHT NOT ALWAY'S LIKE THE ANSWER.
Hi Wixomwizard, This is how i see it also.I do believe God always hears our prayers but only answers us by giving us what is best for us.It may not be what we want, but somewhere down the road there will be a good reason as to why he answered in this way....
