DUBLINGUY1973: Yeah but not all couples who are married years are just married because of a piece of paper though. Some are actually married because they are happy.
afree but the world is a different place there wisdom is just out of time
2tall: well in my opinion the spark is there on clapping eyes on the person, ive had a few relationships but i know i only loved once... butterflies come and go but the spark is there forever
Well that initial spark and chemistry are not necessarily the same thing in my opinion. Chemistry is more about a rapport with another person than an initial attraction. I'm not sure how much chemistry you can build in a minute though....JMO

Yeah but all i am saying is that i think it rarely happens that way. Well not in experience anyway....
My parents are married 40 years next year and they have had their ups and downs but I think I can safely say they are still very happy and not just still together out of obligation.

Oh and Flick, I'm sure your mother would disagree with you about that

Not too clingy or afraid to break a nail. Knows how to make a man feel like a man. She should be a woman: not 75% man and 25% woman. Intelligent, yes. But not the type who feel she can string along all the guys or girls in the neighbourhood and still expect me not to find out. Huh?
wexlady41: Following on from the Being Alone thread some of us ladies would like to know what it is men prefer. Feel free to be as honest as you like. It's just for our own information.
And ladies..let's not get all defensive if some of the men say something we don't like.
Let the fun begin!!!!!
Well i like a lady to be kind and honest, loyal and i can have a good laugh with and doesnt take life to seriously and likes me for me.
kidatheart: I see this thread is potentialy turning into one hell of a sticky mess.
Yes, I fear I did get a bit carried away and did some hijacking. My most abject apologies. I am light headed waiting for the time to go to the Cork meet
In most situations (and notice i said MOST and NOT all in case i get shot here) when a woman meets a man, she likes him and sees potential for him to be her perfect man. Then after a while she sets about moulding him into what she wants. When he doesn't change, the woman gets frustrated.
However, when a man meets a woman, he likes her and hopes she doesn't change because he thinks she is grand as she is. She does change though because she always wants to better herself and the man gets frustrated.
Men tend to be very laid back, sometimes too laid back (maybe even lazy)and a lot of women can't accept that.
Oh and as for the control thing, most men i think are all for compromise but they hate being bossed around and controlled. The trouble lies is that most women think that they need that push but men hate being told what to do. Believe it or not, they are not looking for another mammy.
But hey.......that's just my opinion. What do i know?
I was having a look through this thread and thought the above quote was so true....there are very few men that want a woman to change at all from when they first meet but I dont believe the same can be said of most women
However I do think that the woman wants to change the man in her own mind so as to enhance the relationship in her mind, rather than any malicious reason.
With reference to an earlier post, I do believe that guys would like their woman to have at least a little bit of vulnerability, they're looking for a feminine and not a male personality.
As it might say in those relationship books, they're looking for a "refuge" after being out chasing lions all day !!
Women might think this is pathetic or not relevant to the modern world, but the statistics for separated, divorced and single adults in the western world says otherwise.
As the old saying goes, the first 3 things that a woman sees on entering the church on wedding day are the aisle, the alter and him - I'll alter him
