A lot of people choose "average" to describe their body type. I did because I'm not model skinny but not fat. But what does average mean to you when you read it in a profile? Does it mean the person is like most with a few extra pounds, or just that they are in between?
To me average means a few pounds but everyone's interpretation is different. I met one girl who told me she was average and from her photos she looked average. When we met however it was obvious her idea of a few pounds and mine were different. She was the same height as me but was heavier than me. To me she was fat not average.

seekndestroy: if you ask a woman that question the answer is fat
if you ask a dude average means....... well...... average!!!!!
It really is one of those adjectives that is open to a lot of interpretation...is it "average" meaning what an average body shape should be like or is it "average" meaning what the average current body is actually like? Then you've got the Australianism of saying something is pretty average meaning it's a bit crap.
Words mean nothing if there is no picture to back them up. If it is only head shot photos that are provided then be suspicious if "average" is specified .....

Maybe the site should do like some others and ask you to input your height and weight.
I know some people might not want to put it on their profile but it could be an option rather than mandatory. After all I don't see the point in hiding it if you're looking to meet someone. If you get to the meeting stage they will know anyway.
If someone is not going to be attracted to you because you are tall, short, fat, thin then wouldn't it be better to know that from the start so that neither of you waste each others time.

well here is my theory....
average is a comparative, quantitative word... meaning that in order to find out what average is you have to know what the "best" and the "worst" are...
so men see that the best is the super fit male model type and the worst is Quasimodo's ugly brother that needs a crane to lift him out of bed... so to us, average is in the middle and thus it means that someone who is not toned and could stand to loose a few pounds, but can still bend down to tie his shoes
women on the other hand, seem to think that the best is her cute friend who is just big boned but still has curves and the worst is her other cute friend who simply has to make sure to wear clothes to hide her lovely plumpiness... therefore ANYTHING in between is average... hence, average for one of yall can mean anything from invisible when standing sideways to Shamu's cousin who cant live in captivity cos there aint a pool big enough for her !!!!
Well in the USA I think average for a women is considered a size 14 in a dress. So as long as us guys realized that is the starting point for some, we might have some clue as to how millions of us figure it out.

I am getting very confused on this poll! Isn't "average" meant to be "not skinny but not fat"?? I put Average on my profile, but most people seem to think it means overweight! How does that work????
Also, average sizes of women vary from country to country, so average in one country can be completely different in another country! And... what happens if you are one size on one part of your body and another size somewhere else!!
It's pretty meaningless stuff really. As people have said on here, if there are up to date photos you can judge for yourselves!
Can I ask... if "Average" is slightly overweight, but you are not overweight, what should you put? I am definitely not overweight, but nor am I skinny!
Couldn't they put an option on for: "Marilyn Munro"!!
mine is 20.6 but that BMI chart really doesn't take any other factors into account other than heigth and weight. such as i'm 27 years older than you. will your BMI be 19.5 then?

I would doubt it. I'd be very happy to have it be 20.6 at that point.
My parents have both put on a few pounds over the years. Both can split and stack firewood long after most people my age have gone back in the house to lie down and rest. I hope I can do that too.

In my opinion.. average means that you are happy with the weight that you are.. seriously who really cares? been skinny, average and what I considered to be fat.. and now too thin to fit in my jeans,, Looks and weight are superfluous in the long run.. It really IS what is INSIDE that counts.. because if you're not happy within yourself.. no matter how you look.. you can't be happy with anyone,.. Just a little lesson I have learned along the way..
