Veritaas: Any team in the world would have anyone of those players, none of them are overrated. They are all world class when they perform on the day.
Generally true....but.....I have this friend who is a England/Man.U fan for life and I remember we used to argue about Rooney.I remember when he was now appearing on the scene and and the media really hyped him up.I even read in some magazine that they called him the "white Pele" an I was eager to see him.I was expecting a football superman but was disappointed. No question he is a world class player but he was over-hyped(not his fault). I know you're from the UK and all and I mean no disrespect but I have yet to see Mr.Rooney live up to the hype.:) (Thanks for commenting,by the way)
Whilst they are all, no doubt, talented players, they are all, nevertheless, over-rated!
Apparently, Wayne Rooney, for example, has not scored a single goal in the last consecutive 7 matches!! In no other profession would one be paid for NOT delivering the goods, let alone paid a sqillion pounds a second......
For the money awarded, they should be scoring EVERY time....
I understand they are only human, so why are they perceived as "Gods"?!! And, more to the point, behave as such?!
What about performance-related pay which seems to be ever increasingly popular these days?
And, as for being proud and honoured to play for one's country and fellow countrymen, some seem very dismissive of the fans that actually put them (and keep them) there, even showing unwarranted disdain....... Wayne Rooney's demonstration to camera a few days ago was outrageous..... bloody cheek!!

Good thread!
its a team game and I believe he is leading it from the front
Messi...and for that matter C.Ronaldo are freaks of nature and in no way are over-rated!
They do require the players around them to be on the same wavelength though and that comes easier in playing for their clubs for obvious reasons. World cup squads usually take a while to get going.
I only wish the Aussies had another game because they were on the way up.
