I've always believed in supporting the local economy, but have preferred General Motors products all along anyway. The government in the US just needs to get out of the car business along with the financiers, and real car guys with a passion for their products need to be at the helm of these corporations again as they did in years past. Probably never happen again though.
lion131: not much to say,as my country doesn't produce any vehicles!now, over to you!
Henry Ford did try to build vehicles in Ireland, where his roots are from, but it flopped, and was shut down.
In Canada we don't have an actual "Canadian" vehicle manufacturer, so no, I don't buy Canadian. Even if we did, I wouldn't buy anything just to be patriotic, that's BS as far as I'm concerned.
If you look at the big 3 in the US, they've been building absolute crap for decades, and still do for the most part. Why would you want to drive garbage, just to support a BS industry?
I've owned or worked on just about every manufacturers vehicles built for passenger cars and light trucks. The exceptions being Rolls Royce, Maserati and the Aussie brands of GM, Ford and Chryco. As well as many of the vintage brands that no longer exist.
The Japanese/Asian and the Europeans have the North American manufacturers beat, hands down, and that includes the medium duty trucks, and even some of the heavy duty trucks. It sucks that some the better ones aren't available here, like Mercedes, Man, Steyer, and some Hino trucks.

I'm just asking you "have you always bought with patriotism in mind,or do you just buy what you feel is the best/and or right for you?"
Not a trick question. Thought that you might provide your thoughts to show your position as you did start the thread.
I too buy Cdn products. I also, like you, buy Irish products as well but am interested if you do it out of patriotism or if "you just buy what you feel is the best/and or right for you?"

ok,no problem.i didn't bother making a comment at the start of the thread, because it only related to vehicles, and as you know,we don't produce them, but in terms of the other products,to be honest i don't buy all irish products, but i would say a good percentage of them are.if i feel a product from a different country is superiour, then i will purchase it

Same here. I would expect most people are the same, globalism depends on it.
jvaski: When the day comes where a US passenger car is near the quality of Jap or German - than count me in ( excepting our Ford trucks )
I have a Ford F350 diesel right now, and I REALLY WISH I had bought a Hino FB or something similar, which is what I was looking for in the first place.
I will concede to the fact that they're marginally better than GM/Chev, or Dodge trucks, but that's it.
I inherited my grandfather's 1955 Ford F-100 and that thing will not only do a full day's work but will happily eat any small car that gets in its way.
When I'm not driving the Ford, I'm usually a'horseback for work. Hey, it's green living, the manure is good fertilizer, and all it needs to run is some grass. Plus it sure makes the carbon hoofprint really small.
I'm ONLY patriotic about what I can afford and what can give me the most for MY money. Foreign made vehicles have always stood up better than anything American made, so MY patriotic money is on foreign made, obviously!
Being into cars since I was young, I prefer Ford products. I have an 05 Club Wagon with a v10 and a 65 Mustang fastback (which is really for racing and cruising purposes). For daily driving, I admit I have a Subaru Outback and Toyota Matrix. If the car is made here, then I am being patriotic by insuring jobs for Americans.
What I consider not patriotic is jobs such as customer service, data entry, etc. being sent over seas and products made in other countries that are shipped here. I don't see how that would benefit us by much, well except for the importer.
