Tattoos are not something that was started recently. Tattoos go back to Neolithic times. Tattoos in Japan is thought to go back to the Paleolithic era. Warrior tribes like the Maori and the Celts used to get tattooed as well. It used to be that tattoos were status symbols, religious or spiritually significant.
I think nowadays, tattoos serve the purpose of the individual and not society I personally like what some people get tattooed. If its artistically and very personal to the person, I think that tattoos can be very cool, as long as its not overdoing it. (tattoos on face, hands, etc.)

i have only recently got my first tattoo but for none of the reason given to vote on. it took me years to get it as i have a needle phobia but there was hardly any pain and i watched it get done. there is a very special meaning behind my tatt and everyone who knows me knows what it is and they all believe that i couldnt have expressed the meaning any better. i have already decided on two more design and i am getting one designed for me over christmas. everyone will have a different opinion about tatts. some say that it is how you tell who is trash and who is not but honestly i know that is so not true. i know a guy who has more money then a lot of us will see in a lifetime and he is obessed with tatts. honestly i dont regret getting my tatt and i am looking forward to getting more.

Hi Carlos, From my understanding of life etc. tattoos that people choose at a conscious level to get are subconscious scars carried over from a past life that have never healed. And when you look at the history of wars that we have had over the past 200 years and the use of land mines and more volatile weapons etc well for me it makes sense as to why we are seeing a resurgence of them of tattoo's in societies everywhere.
