There are people who sit around all day .. day after day .. just allowing their life to slip away .. this is tragic .. It's good to see sOOOO many people really GET INTO LIFE and just DO IT!!!!!!!!!! awesome stuff ...
Just wondering what about disabled people. Are they just wasting their lives? What about people who are bedridden, in wheelchairs, quadriplegics? Waste of space are they? You think they, or their circumsatances, are tragic?
I think you maybe aught to re-think how you define people and their quality of life. What I have seen here is a very narrow view indeed!

Amity: i would suggest you are overly active..and pushing your beliefs on others.
Keeping fit is a positive thing yes...but you can keep fit in many other ways bar from a gym involved. It is wonderful that people keep a healthy lifestyle..im not dismissing that. What i am dismissing is your generalisation on larger people.

I'm well aware of that, u missed this part of my post:
It is SOME people's choice of exercise and is JUST as WORTHY as ANY other exercise, i.e.: chasing after cattle on your property or whatever it may be.
I am certainly NOT pushing my beliefs on anyone .. I've mentioned a million times .. your choice of maintaining health and well being are entirely your choice .. everyone is different .. OBESITY is a big part of our society .. Those who choose to ignore the health warnings of obesity, i.e. High blood pressure etc .. will indeed lessen their life expectancy as a result ..
Your opinions on this poll are welcome .. as is everyone's .. i simply resent getting MINE shot down in flames .. particularly when it's common knowledge that EXERCISE .. gym or otherwise .. is a healthy, productive way to live your life and certainly prolong it.

A lot of people get execise naturally, I enjoy skiing and do it as often as possible, which is nearly every day here, I really don't have time to go to the gym.
Oh and I know many disabled peple who lead very active lives in some sports, and enjoy their lives.

oh for goodness sake .. now i'm attacking disabled people? R U insane? I was asking people in general: R U making the most of your life? .. THAT's ALL! .. Obviously people in wheelchairs are leading productive, happy lives with the limitations that they have ..

please, I apologise if you feel this way. As ginger pointed out, disabled people are only permitted a certain amount of exercise..if any? So i really feel you are generalising on people...we are all individuals and have different capabilities. Obesity is nothing more than an eating disorder..the same as anorexia. Broaden your views xxxx

GOOOD FOR YOU! I've never had the opportunity to ski and would love to one day ... I have a gym at home, this is convenient for me and is my choice. I work with a disabled person, and he lives a very active, fulfilling wonderful life .. so I'm well aware of that ..

No I am not insane thank you, and didn't appreciate you suggesting that either.
You started this thread saying that people could be doing more to lead productive lives...... Now you ar saying that people in wheelchairs are doing just that. You contradict yourself all the time.
Fact is that people lead their lives whatever way they want, and dont need to have it suggested that they could be doing more, like they have a problem with laziness, or they are children to be bullied or something. If people could be doing more, they would actually be doing it.
UR wrong ... Early demise IS directly related to your fitness levels .. if you are overweight, obese and DO NOT exercise, u are a classic candidate for a heart-attack ... that's a fact ... slagging off at people who go to a gym (lift weights etc) to maintain a healthy lifestyle is both immature and quite ridiculous. You are entitled to your opinion, but it's definitely ill-directed.
You get exactely the same result from OVER exercising ...

Your statement in bold above is a total fallacy. My great grandmother was 16 stone, (about 220lbs) all her life. She never saw a doctor in her entire life and died aged 95. Her daughter, my grandmother was also around 220 lbs and lived until she was 93, never had high blood pressure or diabetes or a heart condition. My mother died young aged 79. She too was a large woman, but none of those things killed her either. She died of pancreatic cancer, (chromosomal, inherited from her father). My grandfather, a very inactive man due to having arthritis like me, never was in a hospital in his life and died aged 99, (actually 3 days before his 100th birthday). Your theory doesn't wash!

Dear Jodiestar, . .
I noticed you said, . . ""now i'm attacking disabled people? R U insane?""
Well, i just want you to know, . .that i happen to be one of the "Insane People" here, . . ok?. . .
and it is definitey "not my Fault",. . .that they "Do Not" allow me, . . out of my padded cell, . . all the time, to exercise . .
jodestir: ... misinterpretation .. that's what this is all about ... Of COURSE EXERCISE IS EXERCISE HOWEVER U GET IT !!!!!!!!!! ... YES!! Diggin in the garden = exercise .. pulling up plants = exercise ... walking to your letterbox = exercise .. OF COURSE IT IS!! ... A "fitness program" is whatever u chose it to be .. whatever gets u off that couch .. This thread was intended to get people to look at themselves, and ask *am i making the most of my life?* i.e. The question was: R U WASTING UR LIFE? It was NOT *IF you're NOT PUMPING IRON IN A GYM U ARE WASTING YOUR LIFE* ... Hmmm? Get it now???
Jodes... how about you re-read the post to which I replied, instead of reading my post as a reply to your original thread starter?
SUNSHINEB0Y: This is a prime example of what I was trying to convey as the ideal, you're wonderful EW but I may need a little more proof of this firm bum
I know... I was born like that (wonderful and with a firm bum. No proof needed some things just are...
jodestir: COOOL! ... Please be aware that my question: "R U wasting your life?" .. Isn't intended to point any fingers at anyone or put anyone down because they don't do 200 situps before breakfast .. it had NOTHING at all to do with that .. It was a question intended for people to look at their life and ask themselves "Am i happy with my life? Can i improve anything?" ... U sound like ur life is very full .. walks on the beach, chasing your kids etc is all a wonderful part of life!!! ... There are people who sit around all day .. day after day .. just allowing their life to slip away .. this is tragic .. It's good to see sOOOO many people really GET INTO LIFE and just DO IT!!!!!!!!!! awesome stuff ...
To be completely honest I had no problem with the "r u wasting your life" part my only problem was with the fact that you tied in being over weight or obease as you said with wasting life. Some of us are happy with our chunky selves, me being one.

I havent read the entire thread but by the looks of things the OP got into some hot water cause some people misunderstood her intention! Anyways, who asked me! In answer to your question OP.. I do feel as it I am wasting my life! I say this because I used to really participate! I used to go out and have friends and take an active interest in me! I also use to exercise regularly and have fun with my work and my play! But along the way, I've made a couple mistakes and some errors in judgment that have left me with life altering consequences and because of this, I have decided to retract a bit from the way I did things. Now, I feel as if I AM wasting away.. cause I dont do the things I used to do and dont know what to do instead, so I do nothing!! THAT is wasting my life!

... in closing i would like to remind everyone that this thread was intended as a question to ask yourself .. to ponder whether or not you are being active enough, i.e.: r u a lounge lizard? Life is all about BEING A PARTICIPANT >>> Getting into it .. doing stuff .. being active ...
The area of exercise .. was a general one .. i.e. Do u get off ya butt and exercise for instance? I also mentioned Do u chase a social life or steer clear?
The thread wasn't directed at GYM or NO GYM ... hmmm? In anyone's language *exercise* CAN take the form of gym work .. it can also take the form of a million other things .. gardening .. walking .. blah blah blah .. the point of the word *exercise* was intended as *R U active enough*??
There was no intention of directing this thread at any area of the community .. disabled .. not disabled .. obese .. or not obese .. It was a general question, directed at ANYONE who happens to participate in the forums ...
I have personally lost a family member due to complacency, lack of inactivity .. high blood pressure .. non-interest in life's activities .. obesity .. I choose to NOT follow that path and spend my life as active and as healthy as I can possibly be .. to both increase my enjoyment of life and extend it's longevity.
I hope at least some of you have taken a look at your current lifestyle and are satisfied that YES .. you are happy with the way things are .. your life is AWESOME!
no I dont think so. I am doing somethings to make my life better, hopefully and that will continue on through the next year or so. my life has been extremely stressful as of late so will be working to get out of that mode too
not real happy right now but trying to stay proactive to fix that

I don't think that lady is insane and neither will anyone else reading this thread what she's trying to tell you is that you come across as very narrow minded and insulting to anyone who doesn't agree with you wholeheartedly. If you heed this and spend a little time thinking about it then make the necessary adjustments to the way you relate to people (stop calling them insane, dumb, obese etc;) your life will improve, possibly more than a few trips to the gym could help.

No problem , she can fix this, all you have to do is go into a cupboard somewhere and pick up and put down some lumps of metal, or you can go and buy some expensive equipment that is basically lumps of metal on a string with a pulley. or a seat with some springs to pull against. then if you want to socialise it's best to do it online because of the way you get removed from the real world and your personality gets so bullish (or maybe she was always like that at least 2 fella's have found her unbearable that we know of).
otherwise I'd say give yourself the time we all need sometimes and start with baby steps to rebuild. wild animals are a great inspiration to me and I love watching them, they never take more than they need and even when things are really bad they never give up. luv from us all

SUNSHINEB0Y: I always think that people who have to specifically set aside time to exercise, unless that's their hobby, for their health don't lead a healthy active enough lifestyle. Even if one works at a desk in the office there has to be more productive things to do with ones energy than lifting inanimate objects for the sake of it, why not go chop some wood for an old person or something?
I think there's merit in this post.
I find the "drive to the gym" culture a little odd.
We have all these labour saving devices that use up resources and pollute, in order to have time to go and excercise.
If you hand wash clothes for a family, walk to the super market and lug your shopping home etc. as in times gone by, you get all the excercise you need, save money and have less impact on the environment all at the same time.
I like the sentiment behind chopping wood for an elderly friend. It doesn't have to be literal as there are many things that you can do for someone else who's slowed down in there physical capabilities.
