Bodecia: As I progress in life toward my hopefully senile-contented, mint-julip, hammock napping old age, I wonder how the young see us "older" types..?
Do they really think we are useless, out of touch with reality and the Modern World?
What would you consider your age has brought you, apart from more aches, pains and the need for the occasional foot rub?
Do you think you are more wise than you were when you were 20 years' younger?
Do you think the over-50s are discriminated against in the work place? Or do you think they should make way for younger workers??
No Bod, with age comes wisdom and a life lesson learnt....Priceless matey!!!

You've been listening too much to True Blue. I'm so angry I could spit.Irrelevant indeed.
I think that the over 50's look after themselves way better than they did when I was a child,or even when I was in my 20's. They are much more relaxed and liberated too. Aspirations used to be that the working class women got married as young as possible and had kids, and as soon as the did so many did not even bother to take care of themselves or their appearance. The men where the bread winners and after work they did nothing except sit in front of the tv,go to the pub and then come home for a fight with the wife. I love how things have changed for the better.

Time breeds entrenchment, which is why you must step aside. It's not that you should be culled lol, simply retire from shaping a world you no longer comprehend.
The youth's future lies above the soil, your future lies beneath.

It depends on the people in your environment whether they think you are useless. I worked in a law office and was the oldest person and I think I was respected for my experiences.
It is thought that seniors are weeded out of the workplace because they earn a higher salary than someone right out of college but I'm not so sure about that particularly in a recession. The college graduate thinks he/she deserves big bucks but they will be glad to take what they can get so that opens a spot to terminate the senior employee.
As for being wiser then when I was 48 that goes without saying. At that age I was still an immediate gratification person who acted without much thought.
In general I think younger people think we know better but they have problems asking for advice. If by chance they do ask for advice, rarely do they take what is given.
Your questions is directed towards the workplace but I think seniors are looked at differently in social environments.

With all due respect ENGLISH, I don't think wisdom comes with age. I've seen it over and over that some seniors don't have an ounce of common sense. Experience comes with age and that brings the lesson.

Yes, I also agree. I can remember thinking when I was in my 20s and 30s, that anyone over the age of 50 was dumb, and totally out of touch. However, that is not true in the least.
Of course, your general outlook on life comes into play, and we all vary on that, but I believe most of us older people keep in touch with new developments, news, and so on.

Well, the men in this age category trolling the 30-something women are certainly out of touch with reality.

That's quite interesting. So am I to believe that people born of Irish heritage, who are over 60 years old, all think that they are wiser then someone younger regardless of how much of life they have experienced?
A 60 year old man or woman, who lives at home with their parents, never worked a day in their life cannot be wiser than the 40 year old who goes out into the world to socialize and has a full time job.
I think a person has to experience all things in life to be wiser. That's what teaches a person how to make decisions.

Astrea: This kind of thought can only come from USA. If there was a way of making a Buck, by culling old ppl..they would do it
I have cousins in the USA and a few good friends, i guess all are entitled to an opinion my friend. Seems in a world full of beautiful people there are some that value this arm candy status, but lets see the REAL folk who value a real person. One can always root out the real from the fake with a god given gift,....Intuition...Priceless!!!

Arrogant to the end. You wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the likes of the old who stood up and defended our country through 2 world wars. Looks like it breeds contempt for people like you too.

I still say wisdom comes with age. Please see the definition I found of wisdom:..
DOES WISDOM COME WITH AGE It should but doesn't always. Researchers in positive psychology have defined wisdom as the coordination of "knowledge and experience" and "its deliberate use to improve well being."With this definition, wisdom can be measured using the following criteria: - A wise person can d...
