TrueBlue1986: I know that today we consume far more than we create, I know that this began in the 1960's here and has subsequently worsened, and then ravaged our economy to where we are now - it's logical to suggest that we don't pull our weight and that this began amongst your generation.
Words like economy, generation - these are broad terms, but with the facts of today, surely I can't be that wrong? If i am, why are we being beaten by China and India whom were relatively backward when you were born?
Bodecia: As I progress in life toward my hopefully senile-contented, mint-julip, hammock napping old age, I wonder how the young see us "older" types..?
Do they really think we are useless, out of touch with reality and the Modern World?
What would you consider your age has brought you, apart from more aches, pains and the need for the occasional foot rub?
Do you think you are more wise than you were when you were 20 years' younger?
Do you think the over-50s are discriminated against in the work place? Or do you think they should make way for younger workers??
Well I think most young people do think we are out of touch with the modern world but I fortunately haven't felt that way with younger people. Some of my best friends are in their 20s and we get along fine. Yes, I am certainly wiser than when I was 20. And yes 50 year olds are discriminted against in the work place. Personally I would be happy to retire and make way for the younger workers; however the government has made it impossible to retire. They don't give seniors any breaks and tax us to death. My brother is 65 and still has to work so his health plant will cover his meds. I think that really sucks.

Good post.
I agree.
Many potential employers I speak to say that they prefer to employ "more mature" individuals because of their better work ethic, experience and reliability.
However, when it comes down to it they often end up hiring 19 year olds purely because they can get away with paying minimum wage.
TrueBlue1986: Time breeds entrenchment, which is why you must step aside. It's not that you should be culled lol, simply retire from shaping a world you no longer comprehend.
The youth's future lies above the soil, your future lies beneath.
I notice that you avoided putting a number to however many of the youth may survive the next war that some cabal/ gang of old farts start and possibly any other subsequent war which will plow the youth,(as always) into the dirt as more worm food. Worms do not discriminate as to age of dead humans. Dead is dead but 'the youth' remain irrational and the 'old' are calculating; those who start wars take all to die for whatever garbage they are fed by the warmongers; they die and become garbage...patterns of insanity. RIP...
As I approach that magical age of 50 I find it intersting how the younger generations cant keep up. I go backpacking wtih teen kids and there 30 something dads and by the end of the day they are week and tired and I still have lots of go in me. Too much time playing vidio games and not enough geting out in the real world i would think.
TrueBlue1986: I know that today we consume far more than we create,
Actually, it's the other way round, we're creating more than we can consume, which results in too many products and not enough buyers, which slows the market, increases inflation and adds to the overall effect of the recesion.
I know that this began in the 1960's here and has subsequently worsened, and then ravaged our economy to where we are now - it's logical to suggest that we don't pull our weight and that this began amongst your generation.
No, it began in the 18th century with the Industrial Revolution, we're just the unfortunate ones who are feeling the results of a flawed monetary system that was exasperated by the sudden and relentless worldwide boom in industry caused by that revolution.

with all due respect, you can be, and are, that wrong. The majority of Western nations made the transition from pre industry to todays consumerism over a period of roughly 250 odd years, and aside from various hic ups along the way, generally their economies had time to adapt and change as new technologies, markets etc came into play. Country's such as India and China are attempting to make that same transition in a matter of 10 or 15 years and their respective economies simply wont be able to adapt at the same rate. Yes their enjoying "good times" right now but when the next big reccesion hits their economies will collapse totally because they simply dont have enough long term stability built in to them. The Indian and Chinese Governments are purposely fuelling their economies to take advantage of the situation the West finds itself in at the present, but common sense should tell anyone that if the Indians and Chinese continue at the present rate of expansion their going to suffer the biggest boom and bust the world has ever seen, and THAT is what will be the undoing of our present financial system, not what the older generation may or may not have done. It's simple mathematics, you dont need to be a genius to work it out. 500 million Indians and 1 billion Chinese, all wanting cars, widescreen plazma TV's, computors etc and they all want them now, and their Governments are hell bent on giving those thing to them now. What effect do you think that will have on the worlds economy, enviroment and resources? Those two country's alone are consuming more oil and raw materials than all of Europe and the entire North American continent put together, so dont keep blaming the older generation for whats happening, it's the younger generations from those two country's, desperate to buy into the Western way of consumerism, who will screw it up for everyone.
I cant remember if I put the cat out? memory must be going, that happens when you get old,.,, actually, true blue is right, I just figured it all out, we made too many colostamy bags and false teeth,,,,

Wow, it is really nice to be stimulated by this type of language and argument regardless of my opinion. Thank you, well done
TrueBlue1986: Issues like what, the economy? The debt? The environment? The depletion of natural resources? Yes, we'll see if we can deal with the mess you've left behind.
I am one of the endangered species on here but I Have to agree with you on that post. We got sucked in to the scam one more time. We are all to blame for allowing the greedy one per cent to dictate and laugh all the way to the bank. The vast majority of people have been conned yet again.
I cannot forget that you said the Irish were USELESS..I would like you to address that at the second time of asking please.
These are the days of lasers in the jungle Lasers in the jungle somewhere Staccato signals of constant information A loose affiliation of millionaires And billionaires and baby

TrueBlue1986: Well, I work in a proper field which creates wealth in Britain - which as one man is the most important thing I can do for my country. After that, you're talking politics.
And I don't think my generation are particularly good people, but I agree with my Grandad when he used to say it all started to go wrong in the 1960's - which are today's over 50's.
Well we at least agree on something! Today's generation does leave a lot to be desired, and when you consider that they are tomorrow's future, heaven help us.
It wasn't all "rock and roll" in the 60's.
We had the Vietnam War,the Berlin wall, and let's not forget the Cuban crisis which could have started a World War 3 Nuclear War, to name but a few incidents that rocked the World. The space race started also about that time.
I admire your tenacity to put Britain back on the map so to speak, but it's not just our country that is in financial difficulties. Power, greed and corruption have a part to play in the downfall of many countries, and you cannot apportion blame on an era, this has been going on for centuries.

Yep .. you are right there ,,, but just remember ,, we spent many years working and building good lives for the future....now it's your turn...... so far ,, all I see is our good work going to waste .... good luck , I think you're going to need it as he steps aside .....
