There are absolutely no reasonable grounds on which to think there is a "next life", any such belief is based purely on wishful thinking. Assuming that you want a next life, of course.
It wasn't a particular thing that I saw, Miwagi. I just noticed that the "conservative" right wing brigade quite often posted a video link to a Fox News clip to support their outrageously implausible assertions, so I went on Youtube and watched a selection. Quite a few of the clips were fronted by a man with a surname where his first name should be, Tucker something or other. Another was smug older man with a Scottish sounding name, Mac something, I think. You show me a News channel that has the same approach towards "liberal" politics and I will condemn it just as vigorously.
I won't pretend I know anything about the workings and effects of American politics, Miwagi, I am barely interested in British politics. I have no political allegiances or leanings, I judge the policies of our governments on a case by case basis, be they left wing or right. I must say, though, that I get the impression that the Democratic Party is more compassionate and less brutal in its outlook. As when, for example, Obama was pushing, against incredible resistance, to introduce some kind of healthcare for everyone, and was vilified for trying to do what, to my mind, was the decent human thing. But, anyway, this has nothing to do with the topic of the blog. The point is, I just cannot get my head round the concept of biased, partisan news media, particularly via TV. I am only familiar with Fox News, and that is only a very recent acquaintance, but my point applies to all non impartial news, regardless of its political colour.
I think the word "liberal" highlights a major source of our differences, Miwagi. You Muricans use the term pejoratively, whereas, elsewhere, it is not necessarily seen as a negative thing. But there is at least one thing we can agree on, thank God for the Atlantic Ocean.
Seaworthy, I was just wondering if I needed to say more in response to rainbows comment, but then along you come and undermine her credibility by agreeing with her, thus saving me time and effort. thank you for that.
Update:....10:30 Sunday 1st July, The leftover pizza was successfully taken out to the rubbish bin 5 minutes ago, there were no complications and the operation went smoothly and according to plan.
On thinking about this peculiarity of behaviour, I have concluded its cause lies in the fact that, although unwanted, the slice of pizza still looked perfectly edible last night, whereas, this morning, in the cold light of the fridge, it looks quite unappetising. I think it goes against our instincts to throw good food away so, to overcome that difficulty, we simply wait until it is no longer all that good, whereupon we find it much easier to dispose of.
Don't encourage me to freeze my leftover pizza, BW, that will only delay the inevitable. I'd rather get rid of it after one day than wait a few weeks to do it.
I do agree that anything with sauce can develop more flavour if left a while.
No, Lindsy, news should only report verifiable facts, gleaning the truth from those facts is not the job of the news. Conclusions based on verifiable facts are subject to interpretation and the news should give equal, non preferential airtime to parties on all sides of any argument about the interpretation but should make no interpretation of its own.
RE: Imagination running riot?
I think his testimonials is what he was offering you, Biff.
