Fox News

There’s a set of people here who all seem to have the same strongly held opinions on the same set of issues. Guns, Muslims, Trump, Hillary Clinton, abortion, to name a few favourites. It’s not like some of their views happen to coincide, but rather, they all seem to think the same about everything. Another thing all these people seem to have in common is their propensity for posting videos, and something a lot of these videos have in common is that they have “Fox News” written in the bottom left hand corner. Well I’m no genius but I don’t need to be one to put two and two together.

Half an hour spent looking at Fox News clips on Youtube doesn’t amount to extensive research, I admit that, but it is enough to make it obvious that Fox News is far more propaganda than news. I always thought the purpose of news programmes was to inform people of the facts, not to tell them what to think. I know we all have our prejudices and preferences and like to be told what we prefer to hear, but what is the point of news if it’s biased? We all get things wrong sometimes but if we are never presented with an impartial account of what is going on, how are we supposed to make an informed decision when we vote?

I find the idea of people preferring having their prejudices reinforced, to hearing the truth, amazing.

Well said. I don't know how anyone can watch Fox New but that's the only news source in the USA. laugh
For the rest of the news channels Americans must pay. It's such a different USA today. yawn
I like CNN because it covers the globe.

I know what's happening in other countries more than what I know what's happening country.
I like CNN because it covers the globe.

I know what's happening in other countries more than what I know what's happening IN MY country.
CNN= Clinton news network.
"What is the point if the news is biased"

Brainwashing would be the point.
stringman your wrong.
I'm sorry, Miwagi, I just can't get my head round the idea of a news programme or channel that has a bias, or even an opinion, be that left wing or right. It just seems wrong.
Harbal you're looking at it wrong. All these cable news channels and late night comics are there for one reason. To make a profit. Period. End of story.
I can see why the channels are there, what I don't understand is why people watch them.
It's not like all that many people really do watch them. Out of a country of over 300 million the top shows might average 3-4 million viewers.
I don't know about that, Miwagi. All I can say is that there seems to be a correlation between what Fox News is pumping out and the opinions and beliefs of the American conservative contingent on this site that seems to go beyond coincidence.
It's not just Americans harbal. Conservatives all around the world have a similar take on the consequences of events shaping the present and the future. The world is changing I don't think anyone can deny that. Will these changes be good or bad? I lean toward many of them being bad, but I'm mostly just trying to run out the clock. Does the future look pretty bright to you?
Have you notice, the presenters don't talk, they shout. wave
The shouting comes from being fair and balanced. They put on a liberal and a conservative at the same time to discuss the current issues and they try and talk over each other. It only happens on the opinion shows and not the straight news shows.
That is why i never watch the news, even many television shows are trying to tell you what to think. NCIS is a terrible show always trying to tell you who your enemy is. It is no different then people who read a book and believe everything in it is true.
Stringman, Miwagi, and Mic,

I completely agree on your take of the news!thumbs up
"That is why i never watch the news, even many television shows are trying to tell you what to think. NCIS is a terrible show always trying to tell you who your enemy is. It is no different then people who read a book and believe everything in it is true"

What Marlin sez. Yep. cheers

cowboy
so should we read the bible it is GODs word or is that not true too? if you read the news you know.laugh
Harbal, news are news. Their purpose is to tell what's right and true. Responsible and intellectual reporting must prevail. Now these "group" of people may or may not only watch Fox news. I don't. I counter watch other news. Combined with reading the WSJ and some local papers.

Being biased and or being prejudiced is personal. I favor Trump. I'm a believer that he's doing a great job. Fox news isn't the only major outlet of his accomplishments.

Listen to Hannity, Judge Janine, Russ Limbaugh, you'll find their factual reporting.

I do want documents presented on claims reported on any news, sans those documents, I wouldn't buy them.
I'm sorry Mic thanks for correcting me. When I was in the US, hotels and cruises they only showed Fox News so I figured that's the number one broadcaster and the rest must be paid by cable wave
Lindsy, no news outlet should have any kind of bias, whether it be Fox, CNN or any other.
"...no news outlet should have any kind of bias, whether it be Fox, CNN or any other."

Noble thought, har.
Ain't gonna happen, though...not enough focus.
Sponsors wouldn't be able to determine to what thoughtgroup/demographic their products should be marketed confused
Shotgun marketing. Cost ineffective scold

Long story short...
No focus, no identifiable market. No Identifiable market, no sponsors. No sponsors, no revenue. No revenue...Well, that says it all -NO REVENUE!
Hence - no such news outlet...sigh

cowboy
And I watch RT.
We get CNN International so it's probably different to yours Mic. You quote which I used is important to remember. thumbs up
CNN has an exclusive at the airports
Harbal, you misunderstood me. Being biased and prejudiced is personal, news should only report the truth.
Too bad that they haven't perfected human cloning yet. If it were possible, then we could resurrect Edward R. Murrow. Even Walter Cronkite stood in awe of Mr Murrow.
I watched the (FOX) vid about CNN in airports, wag.
I was not aware of that, specifically.

Yep. Like I said...paid product placement. Absolutely.

cowboy
No, Lindsy, news should only report verifiable facts, gleaning the truth from those facts is not the job of the news. Conclusions based on verifiable facts are subject to interpretation and the news should give equal, non preferential airtime to parties on all sides of any argument about the interpretation but should make no interpretation of its own.
News DISTORT the truth to fit their own agenda!
Just the facts...
Again - Noble Ideal. No argument.

And again...
Long story short...
No news bias, No focus. No focus, no identifiable market. No Identifiable market, no sponsors. No sponsors, no revenue. No revenue...Well, that's all. -NO REVENUE!
Hence - no such news outlet...sigh
Finis. Show's over. End of story.

In case any of y'all failed to grasp the concept...
One More Time...
With Music...

NOT a FOX (FAUX?) News vid scold
grin

I thought we'd covered this confused
dunno

cowboy
Harbal I've never trusted the news and not long a long I had the privilege to call out one of our local news stations for misleading the public in my neck of the woods on a particular story.
Yes, BW, they have to strike a balance between informing and entertaining.
Harbal usually it's often done at someone else's expense.Unfortunately.sigh
When Ed Henry of CNN left the network and went to Fox News in 2011, MMfA, within hours of the announcement, published a hit piece on Henry. As John Hudson at The Atlantic reported, “the group’s rushed denunciation of Henry is a little silly” because the only other articles on Henry that year were actually to credit him for criticizing a Republican congressman and other Obama critics.

My word, Miwagi, you have been busy. beer
Thank you for your unbiased opinion, rainbow. laugh hug
Ms rainbowdream, I can't tell you how refreshing it is to read your comments, and not just because they align with my thinking. You can see the forest through the trees.

Fox and OAN.....One American Network are the two news feeds I listen too. Liz Wheeler and Gram Ledger have good Twitter feeds from OAN.

And as Ms rainbowdream aptly stated; if the left likes something one knows it can't be good for the world. Most networks/newspapers are owned by the left. Their agenda is to make money, and lies, fake new!s and deception brings in the big bucks. Thanks to Trump for signaling the fake news media: CNN, MSNBC, ABC... Washington Post.....this whole scene is no different than 100 years ago, just more intense due to social media.
