House Cats hunt essentially the same prey - small rodents & such.
Based on prey obtained per attempts made - the li'l kitties are Twice as efficient as owls.

It's well for humans that their pet cats aren't any larger than they Are ...

Owls hear with their eyes.
The feathers around their eyes are sonar collectors that conduct sound to their ears.
By moving their heads, they can determine the direction & distance of the source of the sound.
While their night vision is beyond belief - Their sonar locating ability enables them to detect prey & strike Accurately in Total Darkness.

The BEST Rationale for abolishing capital punishment - Specifically as practiced in the U.S. - from Judge Jim Gray, is that it's Unnecessarily Cruel ...
Not to the Criminal - to the families of the Victims.

The time from sentencing to execution may take Decades - The delays put families on an emotional roller coaster & may deny them closure for more'n 1/2 their lives.
Better to lock the criminal up & allow loved ones of the victims to move forward.

A bizarre extreme example -
A California murderer had spent So much time on Death Row that he'd become an aged, blind cardiac invalid.
His lawyer argued that California couldn't execute his client because the Death Chamber wasn't handicap accessible & forcing the criminal to require assistance into the chamber would be Degrading.
I b'lieve the request for a stay was denied & the Euthanasia ... er, Execution was carried out.

Presumably, assisting the criminal Into the chamber wouldn't be appreciably More Degrading than assisting him Out of the chamber.

Some years ago, at least one U.S. State had capital punishment to be applied to someone who committed murder while serving a life sentence.

This seems reasonable, - Adding another Life Sentence would provide NO deterrent, wouldn't prevent Recidivism and is kinda Silly, if one thinks 'bout it.

There are no Good Data supporting capital punishment as a Deterrent.
Capital Punishment Undeniably prevents Recidivism.

The Best case for capital punishment is Extreme cases such as prolific killers like Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacey -
Not as a punishment or deterrent, but to prevent them from Ever killing anyone Else.

Revenge is Certainly an aspect of "Justice".

Providing the sense that the System has avenged a Wrong is vital.
Satisfying the elemental Need for vengeance is a Necessary aspect of a Judicial System if it is to supercede the older system of the Blood Feud.

It's NOT Coincidental that feuds continue to exist in remote (typically mountainous) areas where a legal system of courts is perceived to have difficulty & lack Credibility in meting out Justice.

Lou is not Incorrect in saying there'll be Blood In The Streets if it becomes widely Perceived that the Court System fails to mete out Justice to Chauvin.

Hence my comment above that Should an Appellate Court overturn the Chauvin verdict, the Decision should make it Abundantly Clearly Understood WHY it's overturned -
And Who's Responsible for it being overturned.

You Bet it'll be appealed! Defense will ask for a mistrial based on ...

1) The judge did Not sequester the jury after the Daunte Wright incident as Defense asked.

2) Jury Intimidation ...

Mad Maxie HANDED Chauvin a Get Outta Jail FREE Card.

Hence my comment above that Chauvin may be "cleared" and Never(!) serve a single Day in prison.
