Septimus Winner was born in 1827 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He taught himself music and ran a music store and also taught people how to play various instruments.
He wrote several songs in his day which became popular. Some of his popular songs included, "Listen to the Mockingbird" (1855), "Where, Oh, Where Has My Little Dog Gone?" (1864) and "Ten Little Indians."
During the American Civil War, Septimus composed a song entitled, "Give Us Back Our Old Commander: Little Mac, The Peoples Pride". He aimed it as an appeal to President Abraham Lincoln to return Union General George McClellan to service. Unfortunately, it was deemed anti-Union and in 182 Winner was jailed on a charge of treason. He was freed after he agreed to destroy all remaining copies of the song.
It is, however, this song that he never intended to be a religious song that we still remember him for. It has been included in many evangelical Christian hymnals.

At times we look back to a time that was so embarrassing at a time when we are so vulnerable like for me at age 12............even now at times, I remember this. I was chosen to recite a poem, a very sad poem in front of three other classes, oh boy what horror. Already in class rehearsing in front of only my classmates, I stumbled over the last two sentences.
"A little boy is watching his brothers playing outside, he longs so much to join them but he can't. He has been sick for so very long now.............. But someday when he gets well he will also play outside and have fun just like them........... His mother is sitting by his bed feeling so sad for her little child as she feels his pain, sees the longing as he is watching his many brothers having so much fun. She takes the hand of this child in hers and tells him that his daddy who is at sea, will soon be home. (She does not tell him that a heavy storm has broken out making it very likely that his daddy does not have much of a chance in his small boat) So the mother is comforting her little boy telling him that soon he will get well and join his brothers outside.
Now come my last two sentences, oh no not again, not now.............. My teacher is yelling, mother mother, no result, .......my classmates yell, mother, mother. I don't hear them, am frozen............ My teacher is coming over to me now, she has no choice but helps me with those two last sentences.
"Mother, mother don't be sad, please don't cry.......... For your little boy will soon be with his daddy."
I had a lot of the kids crying, but now there was laughter..............
Had to read that again Mercedes you are getting up at 4 am, 5 days a week, all year long. When I was very young about 15-20 years old, I would get up at 5 am to ride my bike for 1/2 hour then swim before school. Only from May 15- September 15. During those other days, I would turn around a few times in my bed before getting up lol After I was 20 years old, moved to Canada.........................

Shawn years ago I worked in the meat dept we often had coffee with the cashiers and loved to hear their stories. One of the choices at the time was a paper bag or a plastic one, The customer was watching her groceries being put in a paper bag and after her $60 dollar order was packed would say; I really wanted it in a plastic bag. The cashier would very slowly change it all into what the lady now wanted hoping that the many customers waiting would let the woman have it. After I said I was writing a book about how we can be sure we are going to heaven, she marveled, “You mean you can know that you are going to heaven?”
Realizing God had opened a door for me to tell her about Christ, I reinforced that we can know for certain our eternal destiny, saying, “We can afford to be wrong about going to Sisters, Oregon, but not about going to heaven.”
The truth is, we can be sure about where we will spend eternity. We can know with certainty that when we die, we will go to heaven. But how can we be sure? Many people struggle with the certainty of their salvation, especially new believers.
How can we know where we stand with God? The Bible teaches that the assurance of salvation rests securely upon four unshakable pillars:
Pillar 1: God Cannot Lie! First, assurance is based on the absolute trustworthiness of Scripture. Throughout the New Testament, we read God’s promises to save all who will believe upon His Son. The Bible says, “Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.”(1) This is a promise! All who have committed their lives to Jesus Christ may have the firm confidence of salvation based upon the infallibility of God’s Word.
Jesus said, “The one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.”(2) If you come to Jesus with genuine repentance and faith, He promises that He will save you. We can know Jesus has received us because, quite simply, He said so! When the Bible speaks, God speaks. And what God said, He will surely do. He will save all who call upon Jesus Christ. You have His word on it.

That family has gone through a lot with this kid who does seem to be able to take care of himself as a homeless person? Those parents are never able to relax as he seems to bolt for the slightest thing................

He has risen.............halalua Jesus’s disciples took his body down from the cross. They lovingly placed it in a new tomb and closed the entrance with a large stone. Early in the morning of the third day there was a great earthquake. An angel came down from heaven and rolled the stone away from the tomb. Some women who loved Him came to anoint his body, and they were surprised to find the tomb empty. They were met by angels who told them, “He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words” (Luke 24:6-8).
Following his resurrection, Jesus met his disciples in an upper room. He showed them the wounds in his hands and his side and blessed them with the peace of God. As the disciples watched Him ascend, two men in white clothing appeared and said, “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11).
So when the people of Samaria heard Jesus’s message, they believed on Him. They told the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, but because we have heard Him ourselves and know that He really is the Christ.” The gospel of Jesus Christ, which is his teachings, death, and resurrection, is the power of God unto salvation. To experience salvation, come to Jesus, repent, and forsake sin. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and commit your life to Him. Then through the power of the Holy Spirit you can love and forgive all people, even your enemies. As Christians continue in faithful obedience, Jesus gives power to live victoriously over sin.
Jesus is now in heaven interceding for mankind and preparing a place for the faithful (John 14:2-3). Someday soon He will return to judge the world. The apostle John wrote about that day. “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it... And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened... and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books” (Revelation 20:11-12). God will separate the faithful followers of Jesus Christ from those who lived in selfish unbelief. He will receive all the faithful into the heavenly mansions He has prepared.
