Can't help ya regarding the apple cider vinegar for weight loss but I have heard it works. Over the past two years I've lost quite a bit of weight simply by watching what I eat and paying attention to the nutritional info on packages. That along with plenty of walking did the trick for me. 
I hear ya about there being a different feel in the forums. 
All is well here and hope you and your lovely lady are doing well.
I've always been one to mess around with critters and the only thing I can't stand are spiders. Might be a bit different around the critters in your neck of the woods though....some of those are pretty fierce.
