Even if you hated school, was there a subject you felt most comfortable with or interested in? Did it help define your work life afterwards or outside interests?

I liked Science cause it was an eye opener for my young curious mind. Science is everywhere.
Back in early 60's we were already carryin 22's n' shotguns to school in the first grade; had an archery and gun range in the school yard,,,we had to walk to school back then, snakes and gators everywhere.
Then we were playing with dry rocket propellant by the third grade, strapping engines to model airplanes fueled by gasoline engines, not to mention all the staged rockets we played with...what was Not to like about school back then.
By high school we were building radio's from scratch, building racing engines, n' welding/building the wildest trick cars you ever saw from all the junk cars dragged to school.
Today; any teachers teaching kids this stuff would be fired... And any kids learning what we learned would be considered JR terrorists...
My favourite subject was art but I enjoyed most subjects with the exception of math and history. It wasn't until later in life that I discovered my technical side and went on to a career that was technical in nature.

Science and art the most popular so far. Surprised nobody voted for foreign language. Mon dieu! mange tout Rodney!
@track: oh yeah the breaks were always good, except when the wasps were after your lunch in September! grrr!
Maths was cool whenever someone let off a stink bomb, was funny watching the chinese teachers reacions and some chinese words which none of us understood
sergio09: Music and Social Studies were my favorite subjects....and they have defined my whole life.
can't believe I left out music! One of my music class memories is learning about Carnival of The Animals, and the different instruments. Always think of a duck when I hear an oboe now!
@lookin: I'm not a great cook but I did enjoy cookery class (Domestic Science or Home Economics) as it was called where I was. Wasn't mad about the sewing part though. Ugh.
Latin. I loved it from the first moment. It is a clear, fine language, but also passionate and powerful because of the stylistic devices that the old historians used.
I translate since school times until today Latin texts, inscriptions of gravestones or lists of literature for people who write their dissertation or professorial dissertation in theology or history.
I feel Latin as much more normal than German and as a much more logical communication medium.
minnieme2: Learnt my typing skills on the old typewriter, clackety clack, bang, clackety clack, bang!
@cc some really did hate school and had a bad time there. Glad you did well though!
@Min I realize that back in my day that some people had to struggle and it hasn't changed any now either.Students fell through the cracks and just got passed on.
When my son was in grade school I was a parent volunteer and knew of some students who couldn't even read at all or past third grade level.

Aww, school life must have been tough for them. People with dyslexia and other learning difficulties had no chance years ago.

10 minutes only? Usually takes 20 anyway, depending on the size. You must have had strong teeth!
