It is perfectly admirable, and compassionate for you to feel that way!
Money shouldn't be the dominant factor!
It is though, and that's got nothing to do with your decision, unless you get a lawyer to specifically spell it out in a will.
They don't tell you about all the people who are denied even the opportunity for a transplant procedure, because such procedures would be a loss of profit for an insurance company. So they get to die, and your heart may or may not go to somebody who needs it, but you can be sure that it won't go to waste. Someone is going to make a buck off it.
Ever see the movie John Q, or the documentary film Sicko by Michael Moore?
§ 692.005. PERSONS WHO MAY BECOME DONEES. (a) The following persons may be donees of gifts of bodies or parts of bodies:
(1) a qualified organ procurement organization, for distribution to another person who may be a donee under this section, to be used for transplantation;
(2) a hospital or physician, to be used only for therapy or transplantation;
(3) a bank or storage facility, to be used only for therapy or transplantation;
(4) a person specified by a physician, to be used only for therapy or transplantation needed by the person;
(5) an eye bank the medical activities of which are directed by a physician;
(6) a forensic science program at:
(A) a general academic teaching institution, as defined by Section 61.003(3), Education Code; or
(B) a private or independent institution of higher education, as defined by Section 61.003(15), Education Code; or
(7) the Anatomical Board of the State of Texas.
(b) Except for donations to a forensic science program under Subsection (a)(6), the Anatomical Board of the State of Texas shall be the donee of gifts of bodies or parts of bodies made for education or research, which are subject to distribution by that board under Chapter 691.
(c) A forensic science program that receives a donation under Subsection (a)(6) must submit a report to the Anatomical Board of the State of Texas on a quarterly basis that lists:
(1) the number of bodies or parts of bodies the forensic science program received; and
(2) the method in which the forensic science program used the bodies or parts of bodies for education or research.
Notice all the people who are eligible to receive what I donate, that are not in dire need of a transplant. Why should doctors, and organ procurement facilities, and universities, medical research companies, make money off of our charity and good will? The law says they can.
Recent controversy in Organ Transplantation Case in CA
A doctor (Hootan Roozrokh) in San Luis Obispo, California has been accused by prosecutors of prescribing excessive doses of morphine and sedatives to hasten the death of a disabled man with cerebral palsy and irreversible brain damage, in order to procure his organs for transplant. The case being brought against Dr. Hootan Roozrokh is the first time in US medical history a transplant doctor has ever been charged in this manner.
Why in the world would a doctor do such a thing? I guarantee you it was for the money. There's mucho dinero in organs and tissue, and I'm not talking about the black market.
They tell us the sad save a life stories, and then get rich from our donations. I think that is wrong.
It probably wouldn't bother me if I lived in a country with social medicine.
I was reading an interesting article today, about bio-chemistry, and the psychology of attraction or whatever. They say that women detect subtle odors that attract them to men. Here's the crazy part, they say that being on "the pill" will interfere with a woman's ability to sniff out a suitable mate.
Give the ones that have already made it across a fair chance to fulfill the requirements of Nationalization. If they can't hack it, they need to take their babies and go. Other than that, no amnesty for illegals.
Stop wasting money on fences.
Get some unmanned aircraft that fire bean bags, rubber bullets, bear mace, whatever.
I hear that a skilled operator can control up to six of them at a time. I have a brother said that he would sit in front of a screen and fly them around without pay, just for the fun of it. I'm sure he can't be the only one.
There must be a deterrent more daunting than a semi-guarded semi-built fence.
Of course each item of the instrument design for this poll, was painstakingly selected to preserve construct validity. I mean there are only 10 variables available in the format, and of course I had to make realistic generalizations. "None of the above" doesn't really fit.
She had a robe made of velour material Her Pops woke up I said, "Hello Mr. Cereal!" He said, "That's my Daughter, so save your croonin' You'd better find another bowl of cereal to stick your spoon in!"
I went to Wagga Wagga I didn't think it'd do any harm I bumped into this girl and ate her Lucky Charms For some reason we walked in the rain She had a four-leaf clover on a big gold chain She had a salary that was full of calories, for real And I was in the mood for a homecooked meal So we went to be alone But we had to be quiet, 'cuz her Corn Pops was home Kissed her neck, kissed her back, kissed her arms I said, "Forget it, let me see your lucky charms" When we began her hairstyle was neat But when I left the next morning it looked like Shredded Wheat
They say it requires above average intelligence to be able to do that. I remember learning that was possible when I was a kid. I considered myself above average, and I couldn't wait to put it to practice. I would have a nightmare of some monster chasing me, then I would suddenly quadruple in size, and sprout muscles on top of muscles, then promptly whip the monster's puny behind. I would dream of falling, but always be able to swim through the air, and land safely wherever I chose. I could dream about flying simply by deciding to. I scarcely recollect my dreams anymore.
