Losing your religion?

Don't deny it's vague at this point, and I'll repeat that learning is likely to take me beyond this lifetime. Pagan is an easily accepted label if you must apply one though, like all labels, it is limiting.

Losing your religion?

I agree with labels being confining and limiting. So many people are lost without them though. No label = no context.

Why need I be "tied" to any religion? And why does "older path" imply religion at all?

Losing your religion?

With all due respect Gibs you hardly know enough about me to apply a label.

Suffice it to say I do not belong to any organized religion, nor do I pretend to have any sure answers.

Learning will take me beyond this lifetime, of that I am sure.

Losing your religion?

Define "out"

Losing your religion?

Vague to anyone not familiar with the concepts, naturally. I'd have thought you well read on much of this.... forgive my assumptions if made in error.

Losing your religion?

I have to admit tbat though I was raised Catholic and am therefore familiar with the Holy Trinity, my spirituality now tends toward a deeper, older path. World soul, Oversoul. A higher power, certainly, though I name it not.

This quote appealed to me because the hope of connecting with the dimension of Higher Self / Holy holds the promise of finding light and truth. Ad lucem, ad veritas.

Losing your religion?

Not to fear Lorraine... I suspect Gibs enjoys nothing better than a lively discussion, as do I.

There's no fun in having everyone agree. There is a surfeit of tame CS threads out there for anyone shy of open and candid discourse.

Losing your religion?

Tillich's definition of the noun Holy is abstract and therefore subject to my interpretation, and yours.

Words are hardly meaningless.

In lieu of throwing a spoon at you, may I submit tongue

Losing your religion?

And tell me how else to interpret Mystery of the Ground of BEING? Caps mine.

Losing your religion?

doh Tillich yes... sorry. Shouldn't be pondering replies to 2 threads at the same time.

It's not simply a matter of playing with meaning. Tillich's definition of the dimension of 'Holy' places it beyond objectivity. Beyond subjectivity. Beyond physical world. Tell me what else is left?

Losing your religion?

Reading through the bantering of these last several posts I'd like to respectfully suggest that we revisit the quote.

Epicurus questions whether we can regain the lost dimension: the encounter with "Holy', cutting through objectivity and subjectivity.

The Mystery of the Ground of Being does not speak to me of either God or the earthly plane, but of looking inward.

Clearly then, 'Holy' is 'higher self', and we have the potential to embrace, love and become one with it.

Losing your religion?

Looks like I've missed some fun here today... will have to get caught up.

I do like to toss up a thread without my own comment and see who bothers to reply. Have several with zero posts which I find quite amusing.

Nice of you to kickstart this thread Gibs. handshake

Losing your religion?

Though they're few and far between...

Losing your religion?

I'd rather wait for a well-considered, intelligent reply and then engage in debate.

Death is nothing to us...

No, death is nothing to "us" when we lose a loved one. Grief is, of course.

RE: Things Happen For A Reason

It's a matter of apophenia - the ability of the human mind to find meaning and significance where there is none. (Jung)

Death is nothing to us...

... since when we are, death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. - Epicurus

RE: Strange Expressions

This is a catchphrase which seemed to arise out of nowhere and yet has had a long period of fashion and is still going strong. It’s known mainly in Britain and Commonwealth countries, and is really a kind of interjection. It’s used to show how simple it is to do something: “You put the plug in here, press that switch, and Bob’s your uncle!”.

What do you believe in?

And the reason would be? Tie it into your faith...
Not trying to provoke you, just curious as to how you see it.

What do you believe in?

What's not to understand?

Losing your religion?

The question our century puts before us is: is it possible to regain the lost dimension, the encounter with the Holy, the dimension which cuts through the world of subjectivity and objectivity and goes down to that which is not world but is the Mystery of the Ground of Being. - Paul Tillich

What do you believe in?

I should have been more clear, not to dismiss any of your replies... I'm looking for the light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel type of experience, along with being out of body, seeing oneself from above.

RE: Favourite Movie Quote

I had thoughts about him I hardly knew what to do with and he read every one. Whatever I felt, whatever I wanted, he gave himself up to. I knew that moment everything I knew to be true about myself was gone. I was acting like another woman yet I was more myself than ever before. - The Bridges of Madison County, 1995.

RE: Sleep Talking

Are you aware of your mood during the sleep talking phase? If you're having sweet dreams I wouldn't worry about it. If not, yeah, stress sounds likely. Don't blame the gummy bears. hug
