My favourite sentiment is simply "Peace, love and joy". It's not seasonal.
I find it grating and hypocritical to hear glad tidings at Christmas from people who are unpleasant, spiteful, vindictive or bad-tempered all year long.
Compared to "Felice Navidad" or "Joyeux Noel" the phrase "Merry Christmas" almost seems trite, considering how profound the Nativity is to those of Christian faith.
I agree with the comment that Christmas should retain its name, just as the feast days of other religions do. Go with what is in your heart, not with the trend towards the secular. I personally wouldn't take offense at a warm and heartfelt "Merry Christmas" no matter what my beliefs.
Dear Bob - well, I gave it a try. Nobody's biting here so you'll just have to get out there and be your usual witty, intelligent and charming self in the forums... runs in the family, eh?
My "will trade my brother for yours" thread is now obsolete.
"arthurdent" is my younger sibling, Bob. I didn't find out til yesterday that he had joined CS when he grouched at me for not replying to his jibe at my ability to cook a turkey (my culinary talents are not be snickered at). Looks like he's ventured into the forums already and not yet embarassed himself.
Nevertheless I take my role as big sister seriously and will continue to monitor his behaviour. Feel free to email me with any concerns, requests for his baby photos, tips on how to push his buttons, how he learned to love gravy poured over cooked veggies, or my theory on why cats harrass him for attention.
Oh, and I do apologize for describing him as brown/brown on the "will trade" post. It's salt-and-pepper/grey-green.
First, my sympathy and a <hug>. I have a neighbour whose husband left her for their male marriage counsellor. After quite a period of grief and bitterness, they've now got a great friendship and the family get-togethers include the other guy and his kids as well.
Your roles have changed, but I'm glad to hear you are still in each other's lives. No one to blame. Keep the good memories.
My daughter was in a 4-car pile-up on Hwy 401 in July, some distance frm home. I had no way of getting to the scene but I was reassured by her phone call to say she wasn't seriously hurt and emergency services including the OPP were there.
A few weeks later there were 2 OPP officers in a coffee shop when I walked in. I went over to them and told them briefly that, although I didn't know who responded to Sarah's accident I just wanted to say thanks for the job you do every day.
When I posted this I had in mind the factors that motivate us to make changes, plot a course, set life goals...
... but after being felled by an inner ear disorder which made me violently dizzy (stop the world I want to get off!!!) my motivation this week has been to take baby steps and be content with them.
I get out of bed so I can make tea and toast with honey. I shower so I don't feel grungy. I do laundry because fresh sheets are lovely. I boot up the PC in case I have mail. Nice note from my mom this morning. I sleep because fatigue still has a grip on me.
I'll be back in bed as soon as the sheets are out of the dryer. mmmmmmmm... warm sheets.
Finally, a thread worth getting out of bed for. Thanks Cat.
Following with interest ... will offer a comment that "parallel" universes or planes may be perceived as bizarre by some, yet exhilarating by others. They are not inaccessible. <cue theme from the Twilight Zone>
RE: Anyone a member of the SCA, ARMA, or anything similar?
nay, m'lord... merely a wench. Anon!
