RE: Christmas tree

'When in Rome..." Our "Rome" is multicultural. We are a democracy...but we are also not under the tyranny of the majority.canada

RE: Christmas tree

I absolutely respect your opinion. I agree with some of your points as well. What you did so clearly, was to illuminate that many countries are much less tolerant of other cultures. We as Canadians, are much more tolerent of other cultures...that is a good thing. On the Christmas issue, people of Christian heritage just find themselves on the conceding side of the argument. We people of Christian heritage are not used to conceding anything...we don't like it. People come to our country because in their own, they never had the choice to make an issue out of anything. For the sake of tolerance, we should suck it up and celebrate this. It is a small price to pay for living in our society. The Chritmas "issue" does not outweigh the bigger picture, which is, in fact...inclusivity and tolerance.canada

Thanks for your views Mychelle...well put.

RE: To go to the ER or not??

Last night my little guy spiked a 101 fever. A couple shots of banana kid's tylenol, killed the fever by this a.m. If that didn't work I would have taken him in. Ya can't mess with sick little ones. Fot real little kids who cant keep a thermometer still in their mouths, use an armpit, then add 1 degree to that reading for actual temp.barf

RE: Love Signs

You give up all the things that used to be important to you. You stop seeing all your old friends for a time. You make room in your bathroom for her stuff. You move the broiler and cookie sheets out of the stove so she can have a drawer for her very own. You have to call the fire dept. to help you get out of said drawer after she has stuffed you into it, for offering it to her in the first place.

Family Christmas Traditions You May Have

What are some of your own family's unique Christmas traditions?

My family does a big Christmas Eve house party in the evening. The younger members of the family used to have a field party around a fire, the evening before Christmas Eve. We called it the "Eve of Eve's" party. Lots of beer and marshmallows. Now we all have kids of our own so that party hasn't happened in a few years. It was a great kick off for Christmas merriment. I come from a big family, so Christmas dinner is buffet style...we all eat of our laps.

God Bless Us, Everyone

RE: Christmas?

I am very anti-commercial Christmas. I just don't play. I do get gifts for my children. Cash for my 13 year old and toys for my 4 year old. I don't go broke for it, what I can afford. For family members, cards. For my parents, who are older...lots of love and help throughout the year. Christmas for me is the celebration of the anniversary of Christ's birth, A very prayerful time for me. Exciting for me too as Advent, 4 weeks prior to Christmas, is the beginning of the Catholic Liturgical Calendar. I do love to chugaloug egg nog though. The stuff is pure liquid quadruple by-pass though.

Merry Christmas

How do we honour our children?

RE: Any Readers In The House???

I read Stephen King's "IT" 19 years ago when I was in detox and treatment. I absolutely freaked myself out by reading it in that setting. Still my favourite King tale.jaw drop

RE: Private Lives....and...Public Lives

What law did Clinton break? Since when is adultry illegal in a Western country. If Im not mistaken, he got in trouble because he got caught and it went public. No law was broken, his conduct unbecoming a sitting US President was called into question. They didn't even have enough evidence to impeach him. Clinton broke no laws.

RE: Stem Cell Research

Im for it!

I have a brother with M.S., which is one of the diseases that stem-cell research hopes to have a positive effect on treating. I know very little about this technology. I will read along and hopefully learn more about it. Im not for using the technology to clone humans or anything close to that sort of weirdness. Im sure the same controvertial arguments erupted over the idea of putting one person's heart into another person, et al. If it proves to genuinely help people, then Im all for it. Again...as always, isn't it the religious right that have the biggest objections to this technology?

RE: Any Readers In The House???

I recently re-read Herman Wouk's "Winds of War"/War and Rememberance" 2 book series. Kind of soapy in places, but great historical fiction.

RE: Any Readers In The House???

A crock of so-called Senate reform?

I want to start the ball rolling by saying. I want to hear what others have to say about this issue. I have an opinion, which I will share after a few others have posted their veiws on this issue. Don't worry, I am not setting up an ambush. Its just that It's late and I wanted to start the thread before I went to bed. Anything goes here, passionate discord and debate is encouraged. Feel free to sling, undermine, mock, and squash each other's arguments. So if you are feint of heart and over sensitive, be warned. I hope this turns into a good political debate.

I believe we should abolish the Senate as we know it and form a 100% elected Senate. After all Canada is a republic, not a democracy. canada

How do we honour our children?

I would say the majority of us singles here have children. I bet many of our kids were on the same bumpy ride with us through separation, divorce, and widowhood. Im sure that whatever reason we found ourselves single, our children were usually closest in our hearts. I know mine were and continue to be. My kids rode the rodeo bull with me and sometimes because of me. They are the greatest gifts that I have ever been blessed with. I honour their continuing and unflinching love for me.

I dug this up from a drawer full of keepsakes that I have saved over the years. I wrote this the day after my eldest was born in 1993. She was born at home, in the same bed that she was conceived in...all these years later, my awe still holds it's mettle. I forgot all about this writing, which was the very first thing I ever wrote for my daughter. In the future, before I direct an uneccessary sharp or critical word her way, I pray that I remember the following:

"...as we looked about in awesome wonder, another person had joined us in the room. This person did not come in through the door...our little swimmer was now a dancer."

RE: walk on the moon

The flag waving footage was when the ascent engine of the LEM was firing on the Apollo 11 mission. There is gravity on the moon as well, it is only one-sixth of earths gravity. The flag waved because the rocket exaust kicked everything up during firing. The faux pas of placing the flag too close to the LEM. resulted in it being blown over. Come on all you Yankee Doodle Dandee's, Im Canadian and know more about your own history in space than you do! You guys got to be a superpower...how?canada

RE: Any Readers In The House???

Anything by Jeffrey Deaver (The Bone Coleector, et al.)

Favourite All Canadian Movie

What is your favourite Canadian Film? It can't be an American movie shot in Canada for tax purposes...All Canadian.

My choice is "Joshua, Then And Now" with James Wood and Alan Arkin. Based on Mordecai Richler's book of the same name. It won at Cannes as well. Brilliant flick, even 20 years later.cool

RE: Jesus of Nazareth

I will call anyone on what I view to be outrageous, un-thought through comments that are put up for post. If it goes up...it's fair game. If Gibs or Bob put up posts that I found objectionable or comments posted without much thought, They are fair game too. It seems though Gibs and Bob do think before they click the enter key. They usually have a point, a clear opinion, or at least a flow to their thoughts. I know...you are feeling victimized again. You know Darren, your really...very emotional...aren't you.

RE: Jesus of Nazareth

I see you havn't looked up that word yet Darren.

With all due respect, are you even literate...can you read Darren? Bob was responding to John's blatant racial slurs and hate promoting. It's good that you are defending posters who make such comments. Im sure it will add to your already steller reputation on this site. Bob didn't call John a NAME, he told him it might be best to post without possibly breaking the law. Do you agree with John's racial tirade against people who are East Indian? By defending his post...it appears that you do.

RE: Jesus of Nazareth

It states in your profile that you have 3 years of Law School under your belt? Who'd ya pay off? I can see why you never finished.

RE: Jesus of Nazareth

You are a sick guy. And by posting your comment on an open PUBLIC forum using racial slurs and promoting hate, you have also committed a crime. Any one know this clowns real name. I think the authorities might be interested. Your opinions are one thing John, voicing such opinions on a public medium, is against the law in Canada.

RE: Poem's you have written for someone special.

Hair…the colour of a gentle moonrise.
Your softness becomes you…

Skin…like alabaster,a graceful cameo.
Your softness becomes you…

Smile…a vibrant sunburst, envelopes your entirety.
Your softness becomes you.

May rainbows be about you.

RE: Married "Online" Friends....

Gotta be other agendas, no? This is a dating site. For folks looking to make friends of have a pen pal, their are Friend sites. They are just as common and numerable as dating sites. Im not saying everyone in that category has other agendas. I would certainly be wary though, of someone's motive if in fact they were married and active on a site such as this.uh oh

RE: Life... is it the breaths you take...

Ahhhh, good question.

For me it's like the egg before the chicken. Without my ability to draw breath, I can't enjoy the things that will take it away. The other side of that coin for me is; After I've drawn my last breath, I don't know exactly what I will see...but I'm certain it will take my breath away.

Hey! I think there is a poem in there somewhere.
