RE: Trying to STAY single...at least for now!

Well Dougie, my dear... Do you know everyone in the world? Just because you don't know someone who doesn't LOSE themselves in a relationship, doesn't mean they aren't out there. One should not generalize... Good luck to you !!!!!handshake cheers

RE: Would You Date Someone With Children if You Have None of Your Own??

oh.. and I'd hope that my not having children wouldn't deter a man from wanting to have a relationship with me or asking me out. sigh

RE: Would You Date Someone With Children if You Have None of Your Own??

Well....

professor
I could not have children... but I have 4 nephews (whom I've babysat, changed, fed, sat with when sick... etc. etc.), and I have a Goddaughter (who is now 18)... My best friend has 2 wee girls, 6 & 3, and I babysit them, have sleepovers with them, and my friend feels very comfortable leaving them with me. I fully understand the dynamic between a parent and a child. Can I know what it FEELS like? NO, of course not. I wasn't blessed to be able to have children, but I've dated men who have them, and I understood that the kids were their number 1 priority. There were no problems with that aspect in our relationships.

When I have dated someone with children (especially younger ones), I always let them know that I think it's best we get to know each other first and see where our relationship goes before meeting his children. I don't think it's fair to the children to do otherwise. I also would never expect to take the place of the children's mother.

I only know this... I look at my 4 nephews, especially. I've made sacrifices for them many times, and they are always a priority in my life, and the love I feel for them, the worry I feel at times for them, the hurt I feel when they hurt, is almost overwhelming sometimes... I multiply those feelings by infinity, and I can GUESS (and only guess) how a parent FEELS about their children.

Just my 2 cents.. or 3... blushing hug

RE: Trying to STAY single...at least for now!

And just a PS to that... Because I don't lose my identity and do not change who I am for another person, does not mean I am not fully committed to the relationship, and that I do not worry about my partner's well being, feelings, opinions, hurts, fears and dreams...

I think what's key here Dougie (and you said it yourself) you are still learning.... With life experiences comes wisdom (hopefully).. cheers handshake

RE: Trying to STAY single...at least for now!

No, dougie, NOT everyone changes in a relationship. You can only speak for yourself, not everybody else. I am always ME. I do not lose my identity in a relationship. If I found that happening, I'd get out.

That's just my opinion.professor cool

RE: Trying to STAY single...at least for now!

I think there is a big difference in being alone and being 'on my own'. Alone to me sounds lonely. 'On my own' means single.. one.. comfortable with myself. I think the 'finding yourself' deal is one of those cliches that was popular however many years ago. I think people THINK too much. If you are happy being with someone, then that's what you do! Just because you're in a relationship does not mean you have to spend every waking moment with that person. You can still have your own time to yourself. My dad has always said that too much togetherness can kill ANY relationship... be it a friendship, serious relationship, or marriage.

I, personally, have always taken some time after a relationship has ended because it gives me a chance to just be on my own and regroup. I know many people who don't take the time, and that works for them.

I think a person can still spend time with another person, or date when 'taking time for him or herself'.

If you're questioning whether you 'should' take some time, then maybe some inner part of you wants to do that...

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to it. I think in the end we all have to do what we feel is right for ourselves.

RE: How many really want

I guess you have to go on a few dates here and there to find out if you 'click' with someone. To me, because I go on a date with a man doesn't mean this date will end in a long-term relationship. I don't know where the word came from though... Who thinks up these names? Why couldn't they have called it what it is.. A MEETING... ?? I always thought a date was something you eat... confused dunno but then again, not everyone likes DATES (the edible kind), so it only goes to show that some people would not like DATES (the meeting kind).... Okay... Are we all sufficiently CORNFUZZLED now??? cool dancing cheering sleep wave wave wave

You know you're from Nova Scotia when....

If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow and if you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction, you live in Nova Scotia.

If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car, you live in Nova Scotia.

If you find 10 degrees F "just a tad chilly", you live in Nova Scotia. If you actually understand what this all means….. You live in Nova Scotia!

RE: Okay, all you middle age Baby Boomers..Do you still go to Drive In movie theaters?

OH GOOD GRIEF!!! This is hilarious! I remember the TOMMY movie... The Drive in... Piling 3-4 people into the trunk of the car so we'd only have to pay for 2 people instead of 5 or 6! Or we'd have them jump out of the car at the end of the drive and cut through the field behind the screen... And meet us in the car...

RE: residential surrounding

I live in a 10-storey building, near a beautiful park... and my windows face the Atlantic Ocean. I can see ships coming in and out of the harbour. Everything is within walking distance. However, the countryside is only a short drive away. I have the best of both worlds.. cheering
