Noahs Ark

It's brainwashed "believers" like you who facilitate the agendas of evil people who use these parables to convince weak willed people to strap high explosives on their bodies and obliterate innocent people. They use the bible and the quran as proof that thier sacrifice will earn them an eternal life in paradise with multiple virgins in the case of males. I'm not claiming to be so smart as you put it, I just asked a series of questions and by the application of sound scientific principals, demonstrated that the story of Noah is a complete fabrication. So why would anybody accept it as fact as so many "believers" do?
The difference between believers and non believers is that believers accept what they are told without questioning anything. They are told this is this and that is that and they are willing to kill or die for it. Non believers are not. They put whatever they are told to the test and as Judge Judy has said 100's of times "if it doesn't make sense, it isn't true."
I think I've shone by the mathematics of it that the story is false. It is basically no different than santa claus flying through the air on a sled pulled by reindeer and visiting about 100,000,000 households in 1 night delivering toys to kids. Do I have to apply the test of science to that also? I think not.

Noahs Ark

Are you saying the bible was wrong about the dimensions of the arc? The bible (your source document) says the arc was 300X50X30 cubits. Are you saying it was smaller? I'm not mocking anybody or anything I'm just putting the story of Noah and the arc to the test of logic and mathematics and physics.

If you want to accept the story of Noahs arc as being 100% true, that is your right, but it is my right to demonstrate how it doesn't stand up to modern science.

Here's a simple question for you. Where did all this water come from sufficient to cover mountains clear to the top and why didn't all this water flow downhill back to the oceans? Even if your theory is true that all the life on earth was concentrated in a "local" area how do you flood one area without flooding the whole planet? Wouldn't this mean all the continents would have to be covered with water?

Noahs Ark

As a retired engineer I think you'll appreciate this little excersize.

The arc was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high. A cubit is about 18 inches. That works out to 450 feet long by 75 feet wide by 45 feet high. That's 1,518,750 cubic feet displacement. To stand up to the forces of the ocean etc the thickness of the "Gopherwood" hull would have to be a min of 6 inches. This works out to a volume of wood equal to 40,500 cubic feet. Gopherwood is closely similar to Cyprus which weighs about 30 lbs per cubic foot for a total weight of wood of 1,214,970 pounds or 607 tons of cut, shaped and fitted wood. How long would it take a big strong man to cut down a Cyprus tree (they grow in a swamp remember) trim the branches haul it to the construction site, shape it into timber suitable for the hull of a ship? Also, as he/they felled trees closest to the build site (using stone axe's remember because this was before the bronze age, no chain saws or even steel) they had to haul the logs from farther and farther away.

A man would be lucky to drop a cyprus tree by chopping at it with a stone axe all day. What shape would he be in to repeat this process the next day and the next several thousand times and that's just gathering enough wood to build a ship that size. It would take over 3 years of back breaking work 7 days a week to assemble that much wood. Forget about the actual building of the ship which would have been beyond Noah and his familys ability. This doesn't even touch on the wood needed for the internal structure of the ship, stalls, decks, food bunkers, etc. Did the ship have a roof or did all the animals just get soaking wet for 40 days and nights?
I could go on & on & on proving by simple logic and math that the story of Noahs Arc is totally false, a myth.

Noahs Ark

good point! Also somebody has to shovel all that crap from the whole ship everyday and I guess throw it over the side.

"Elephants are herbivores (plant eaters), but they cannot digest cellulose, the substance that makes up much plant matter. They spend about three-quarters of their time, day and night, selecting, picking, preparing and eating food. An adult elephant in the wild will eat in the region of 100 to 200 Kg (220 to 440 lb.) of vegetation per day depending on the habitat and the size of the elephant" Using the low estimate that's 440 lbs (220X2 elephants) per day comes to 17,600 lbs of grass for the whole trip and that's just to feed 1 pair of animals.

Noahs Ark

I breezed through the book at a motel once. Seemed like a lot of killing and wars going on in the part I read.

BTW, "with God all things are possible" doesn't cut it! God supposedly told Noah to build it, he didn't say I'll built it for you now did he?

Noahs Ark

Where was Noahs Ark built? How many trees did it take to build? Does anybody actually believe that Noah and his family built a ship that size that was sea worthy to stand a storm for 40 days and 40 nights? How did they bail out 40 days of continious rain so the ark wouldn't sink or at least get swamped?

Damn good business plan! Just don't eat all the profits.rolling on the floor laughing

RE: What would you do with a million dollars?

Dude, when you start college I strongly suggest you take some courses on economics and money management because based on your poll choices, you are severely lacking in this area.

RE: Do you date out of your race?

Most people have a misconception of what race really is. They mistake nationality for race and say they are "mixed race" when they may be a mixture of Irish and Italian, or Norwegian & Canadian & Russian. They are Caucasian. There are only 3 basic races on this planet (Caucasian, Asian, and Negroid) and a few subgroups such as Aboriginal Australians and polynesians.

Personally I'm not attracted to dark skin. Even an otherwise beautiful Caucasian woman with a really dark tan turns me off. I do find Asian women to be very attractive due to their petite size and fine facial features especially their eyes.

RE: Projected- Over a Billion Dollars Donated to Haiti, Do you think in Ten Year's...???

If you look at the history of Haiti:

Especially from the Duvalier era to the present you will see that the people of Haiti have been screwed over repeatedly.

As far as the damage resulting from the earthquake, that is what you get in a society with absolutely no building codes.

Rebuilding Haiti is a waste of time and money if the Haitian government, whatever that is, doesn't put at least minimal building codes in place.

RE: Did Charlie Wilson's actions help Al Qaeda evolve

Here is a complete history of the Soviet Afghan war.

The problem with Americas involvement in this story is the fact that after the Soviets pulled out of Afghanistan, America just walked away figuring it was the end of the story when in fact it was a golden opportunity to cement a relationship with a large middle east country in a very strategic location.

"The anti-communist rebels garnered support from the United States. As stated by the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency and current US Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, in his memoirs From the Shadows, the US intelligence services began to aid the rebel factions in Afghanistan six months before the Soviet deployment. On July 3, 1979, US President Jimmy Carter signed an executive order authorizing the CIA to conduct covert propaganda operations against the communist regime.

Carter advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski stated: "According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the mujahideen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, December 24, 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise." Brzezinski himself played a fundamental role in crafting US policy, which, unbeknownst even to the mujahideen, was part of a larger strategy "to induce a Soviet military intervention." In a 1998 interview with Le Nouvel Observateur, Brzezinski recalled: "We didn't push the Russians to intervene, but we knowingly increased the probability that they would...That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Soviets into the Afghan trap ... The day that the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter "We now have the opportunity of giving to the Soviet Union its Vietnam War.""

East Coast Blizzard

I prefer to call it the "Storm before the Calm"

East Coast Blizzard

This thread got a little off track.

We got another snow storm starting yesterday evening til this afternoon. I'm hoping this will be the end of it. The sun is shining and the snow is melting and it's warming up from the sun.

This morning I couldn't even get online because the storm was blocking access to the satelite. I'm just glad I don't live in the Washington DC area.
See the pic I took in the chicken pen, that is a big plastic garbage garbage can I use to hold their feed.

RE: How do these people survive?

Fraid not, they're breeding new ones everyday.very mad

East Coast Blizzard

Hey don't knock it, it gives people who live in the Rocky Mountain states the opportunity to brag.

East Coast Blizzard

laugh You had it right the first time.

East Coast Blizzard

You owe it to yourself to experience deep snow at least once in your life. Have a snowball fight, eat it, have someone throw a handful down your back man that will wake you up in a hurry. Try to write your name in it with pee, we'll see how good your aim is laugh I can usually do my initials.

BTW it was 4f degrees this AM (-15.5c)

East Coast Blizzard

Yeah, and somebody to cut & split firewood and carry it in the house. As you probably know there's nothing worse than your woodpile getting buried under a foot of snow.

East Coast Blizzard

Well, we got a foot of snow a few days ago which was a mess. Then it started to melt and before it was halfway gone we just got hit with another snow storm. This one wasn't as deep but it was wetter and much heavier. Good snowball snow. The first one was very fluffy and powdery. Today was very difficult because I have 18 chickens and they kinda suffer when it snows. I had to go out 3-4 times to the pen to beat the accumulation of snow off the netting covering the pen so it wouldn't cave in under the weight. Half of it caved in anyway. My neighbors barn collapsed under the snow load, she was lucky her horses weren't in there when it came down. Now there's another huge snow storm coming across from the west coast which should be here in about 3 days. Schools have been closed all week and they probably wont open next week either. I just hope to hell we don't lose power. Been lucky so far which is amazing because this area is famous for power outages from snow storms.

Sadly, you're right. There has to be at least a glimmer of hope that the person is at least capable of loving you.
BTW 23 years is really quite a long term relationship. Not many last even close to that long.

RE: Be Gentle With Me

What's a Paddy?

A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins

When I was involved in automobile racing I had one rule. Never settle for anything but winning even if you're running dead last. As long as the checkered flag hasn't fallen yet there is still opportunity. This has served me well on the track because my competitors never assumed I would back off halfway through a race. I never back off and they all knew it. Once during a race in New Hampshire I started 2nd to the national champion on his home track. He jumped out to a big early lead and was out of my sight within 2 laps. This was a 30 minute race and as usual I was driving at 100% for the whole time trying to catch him. I had lapped at least 3/4 of the field by about the 20 minute mark and my crew started telling me to slow down. This infuriated me because they knew my driving style and I was in 2nd place, how dare they tell me to slow down! I got a shot of adrenaline from anger at them and went faster. Next trip past the pit lane I get another EZ sign. By now I'm lapping within .5 seconds of the lap record getting madder by the minute.
Then the flag falls and the race is over and I'm pissed! I drive around on the cool off lap and when I get to the paddock entrance I am following the other cars into the paddock and some jerk official is standing on the track waving me by. WTF? They want me to take another lap? For what? I make the left hander onto the pit straight and there's people all over the track in front of me and I have to stop or I'll run them down. I get to the start finish line and my buddies wife jumps into my car with the checkered flag. A say WTF is going on? She says YOU WON! No I didn't, what about Frank? She says he went out on the 3rd lap. I said BS I would have seen his car. It turns out he lost a wheel and the corner workers pushed his car behind a sand bank where it was hidden from view. In fact he was standing on a hill watching me chasing his ghost for the whole race.

What does this have to do with dating & relating? Simply this. If you love somebody with all your heart, Never give up, never think that he or she is too good for you, never think that you're not good looking enough, not tall enough, not smart enough, or not rich enough. People all tend to be their own biggest critics. But if you have confidence, it shows, and it can be very attractive to the person you're after. If you got dumped, find out what you may have done to cause it and correct your behavior. Everybody deserves a 2nd chance. As long as the checkered flag hasn't fallen (he/she got married) there is hope. The only requirement is you have to love that person unconditionally and want that person more than any other person on earth. If you have that, you will always win.

RE: I CRINGE at OBAMA'S remark about the SUPREME COURT!!!!!!!!

By whom then?
The president appoints supreme court justices. Somebody has to criticize them if they make a decision contrary to the will of the people. They've done it before with prohibition. The supreme court is a wonderful institution but every so often they make a bad decision. They are human beings, not gods.

Like prohibition I believe this too will be overturned. It's just a matter of time. Michael said something very wise. Corporations are not allowed to vote therefore they should have no right to influence elections with cubic dollars.

This is supposed to be government OF, FOR and BY the PEOPLE, not GE, Exxon, IBM or Toyota!
