I know Cuba's relatively inexpensive and popular with Canadians, although I've never been to the country.
I've been to Florida a few times, and it's okay, usually the Gulf coast around Clearwater Beach, Dunedin, Tarpon Springs.
I've been to the Dominican Republic twice quite a few years ago before it became really popular.
That was nice, on the north coast around Puerto Plata, Sosua Beach, Playa Dorado. Now it's very commercialized with large hotel strip.
If it was me, I'd consider Costa Rica and even more interesting would be Honduras, which is still relatively undiscovered by the western hordes of sun worshippers.
Personally, I'm not a big sun person and don't particularly care for the beach. Not saying I wouldn't go, but I'd rather go skiing.
