I really think both political entities are obselete under the concept of the new European Union.
It seems more and more that Europe is drifting toward a United States of Europe sort of political body, where Europe as a whole will be a Commonwealth.
What do you gain? A standardized economy for one thing, where individual soveriegn currency will become a thing of the past.
Imagine, fellow USA'rs, if each state issued its own currency? How confused would our already confused economy be then? Nope, you can't spend those Missouri dollars here, this is California...
As to which country will actually be in charge, I hesitate to guess. My guess is, ultimately, the Swiss will be holding the purse strings. They usually do.
