Provided they're the choices the media supplies to you...
I think the media's ulterior, secret agenda is to destroy the imagination of the public, thus ensuring they only choose that which is provided to them. Our options are limited every day, not by what they tell us, but by what they don't tell us.
So, what if I DONT want HDTV...
Too bad...pretty soon I won't be able to watch TV at all, if I don't buy their newest product...
Not watching TV at all...actually sounds pretty cool.
Believe it or not, Matt Groening grew up here in Portland. There's a picture of Bart Simpson in the concrete in front of his high school, from like 1978 or so...
Actually, Springfield in the Simpsons is modeled after Portland.
Family Guy is HILARIOUS. I love Stewie and Brian...
I would say both, but her character made her far more of a legend in my mind than the media did.
As far as being less snooty than other royals? I think she was a noble, but I don't think she was a royal except by marriage. So, of course she was a little more down to Earth.
And what does any of that mean anymore except a nostalgic need for some people to be/feel superior?
I thought thats what the Magna Carta was all about. Sure glad we don't have a King in America...Oh, wait, we do, for at least another year.
And here you are now, grey hairs and everything, robert.
I would say the same thing. I just dodged the bullet here recently as a lot of positions where I work went over to India about 2 mos. ago. Everything happens for a reason, and the only measure we have as far as whether something is good or bad is taken from a long term view.
A farmers son is injured in an accident one day, and breaks his leg. Everyone consoles him about his "rotten" luck. He replies, "Could be..."
Later that month a draft levy comes through town, and his son is not healthy enough, because of the accident, to be a soldier, so he is rejected. Everybody elses sons get accepted and are marched off to war...
A month later, everyones son is dead except the farmers. Everyone bitterly congratulates him on his "Good" Fortune at having his son spared...
"I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. I was born in the year 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel, and I kinna' die."-Highlander
If I leave, For a day, or a week, Would anyone notice, Would anyone freak? I think maybe a few, But what's that got to do, With the price of gas in Orlando?
I think maybe it's time to creep Like a war-torn commando, Tired of the snipers, kypers, trypers, yeah, And lurk, in the rafters, and brood. Don't you dare poke me with a stick, I'm in a mood to toss a full-on brick, And write a poem in the dripping aftermath, Bloody on the sidewalk, violent verse, Yeah, this talent, sometimes its a curse.
If I leave, For a day, or a week, Would anyone notice, Would anyone freak? I think maybe a few, But what's that got to do, With the price of gas in Brighton?
Until then, I'll sit and eat crow, Because the flavor seems to grow On me the older that I get. And when I'm finally gone, They'll throw a party on the lawn, Have pie and ice-cream and cake, And you'll know there's no mistake, That I brought happiness best, By being a guest, who's welcome Is now, by far, outworn, Like the day that I was born.
That's the one about the cop that's hunting a major drug dealer, which due to the nature of the drug (multiple personality creating) ends up being himself.
You're right, it was "A Scanner Darkly" as a book as well. I was confusing it with another PKD story, sorry.
RE: What character in a movie best...
Well, its not a movie...but...Randolf Mantooth From "Emergency!"...yeah, yeah, I know, I'm older than dirt to remember that one...
