Why would you not believe in external realty? Unchallenged, this view makes complete sense Yes meditation came from the East, but a basic meditation practice has nothing to do with spiritual practice or religion. Medical research has now fully accepted what Eastern societies have know for millennia.
Maybe you're trying too hard. The idea is not to try and tame your mind, that's impossible. It's about observing your thoughts but learning not to follow them or get involved in them. A simple way to do this is to concentrate on your breath, thoughts will arise, but don't engage them and come back to the breath. Every time you do this you're training the mind to slow down. So in fact, the more thoughts arise, the more you come back to the breath, the stronger your meditation practice will become. For most of us it takes a lot of practice, but clear results will be experienced if you stick with it. I've heard it said many times, if you practime twice a day for around ten to twenty minutes, after thirty days you will noticed quite a difference.
In recent years years extensive studies have proven beyond don't that meditation, providing it's practised on a daily basis, has many benefits to health and well being. Mindfulness classes are now available on the NHS in the UK due to the proven benifits of this form of therapy. Have you ever tried, or do you practice meditation?
Most people like to think they're right and the other is wrong....it's an ego thing. Dualistic thinking like this creates barriers and impedes learning.
There's a group for the socially awkward on meet up. com, I joined them for a walk in the hills and couple of years ago. They all seemed perfectly normal to me.
Do you practice meditation/ mindfulness?
