RE: The Invention Of Lying

No, should be a good experience.

No, best not, wrong category...grin

RE: The Invention Of Lying

It's all but a social game we play. The truth is quite different.

RE: Is music a form of Art?

I remember Keith Richards being interviewed on the radio many years ago. When asked if he thought the Stones music was art, he replied, "The only thing I know about art is it's short for Arthur."

RE: Charlie Hebdo

And that is the cartoon the OP is questioning.

RE: Charlie Hebdo

As for the op, the cartoon in question showed the prophet with a tear running down his cheek and the words, "All is forgiven."

How is that an insult to anybody?

RE: Charlie Hebdo

Do you think it's ok to live in a world where we can expect to be killed if we laugh at someone else's expense?

RE: Charlie Hebdo

Admin didn't like it, so they removed it.

RE: Charlie Hebdo

An insult can (and should be) quite easy to ignore. However, being killed isn't.

RE: Charlie Hebdo

Here's a couple of delightful snippets...uh oh

Quran (47:3-4) - "Those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord... So, when you meet (in fight Jihad in Allah's Cause), those who disbelieve smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly (on them, i.e. take them as captives)... If it had been Allah's Will, He Himself could certainly have punished them (without you). But (He lets you fight), in order to test you, some with others. But those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost."

Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"

RE: help downhill fast

Not easy but acceptance is everything. You, and only you decide how long you suffer, but with total and unconditional acceptance of what is, comes an end to suffering.

Good luck...comfort

RE: Charlie Hebdo

Not wanting to make light of this subject, but I can't help thinking of this clip from The Life of Brian. It seems ridiculous religious oversensitivity is not just a joke, it happens too often, regardless of how absurd.

RE: Charlie Hebdo

Most extreme activities are dangerous to life and limb, unless of course you're extremely peaceful.

RE: Yosemite free-climbers reach top of El Capitan

In most circumstances, especially on 'bolted' routes, rappelling down is common if difficulties are come by.

RE: Yosemite free-climbers reach top of El Capitan

You reckon?

Check this out...Steph is really free climbing, that is, no rope, no protection, the ultimate in solo climbing.

The start of the Diamond begins at 3min 30sec, this is real scary stuff and make the climb by those guys on El Cap look like a stroll in the park.

RE: Charlie Hebdo

thumbs up You're right, almost 50 years later many people are now looking for true spiritual guidance in a world that has gone insane. Those hippies found it with psychedelics, but the world wasn't ready for that, the insanity was just gathering momentum.
But, right now a spiritual belief beyond religion and attained without drugs is gathering momentum. I hope the world is ready for it this time, we might not get another chance...sigh

RE: Je suis Charlie

Indeed, most of the moderate Muslims I've met, and I have spent some time in Pakistan, have been kind, generous and peace loving. However, we can't deny there is a threat that shouldn't be underestimate. The threat that western society faces today is from an ever increasing number of radicalised Muslims. Even the so co called 'non violent' extreme Muslims will not denounce the final aims of the radicals, if fact they endorse their aims.
The added danger is, should we tar all Muslims with the same brush, as many do, including certain parts of the media, we will widen the gulf, create even more of 'us and them' which would almost certainly see a greater shift towards extreme Islam.
We need to be aware. We must not allow ignorance, intolerance and bigotry to pollute our values and increase tensions. Islam, and most of it's followers, like all religions really does at it's core carry a message of peace, love and kindness.

RE: Je suis Charlie

Not sure what your point is galrads. But to suggest, as you appear to be, that Islamophobia doesn't exist and not be aware that many people are blaming Islam directly, surprises me.

RE: Je suis Charlie

"Disgust on the Islam?"

It's not Islam that's the enemy, rather extremism and intolerance. By far the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful, tolerant and law abiding, the problem is with radical and extremist Muslims.
If we continue to label Islam as our enemy, we become just as guilty of extremism, intolerance and downright ignorance as those we seek to vilify.

sigh
