RE: American Men Are The Best Lovers

laugh I can see your inbox exploding with men offering hahaha.

RE: American Men Are The Best Lovers

In all fairness, I haven't been playing enough "find the purple parsnip" world-over to really compare. Perhaps I just got lucky with who I picked. laugh

RE: American Men Are The Best Lovers

I'll say American guys are the best. peace

RE: help downhill fast

It took me years to get over the divorce, probably because we had a good marriage but lived each other apart, so to speak. It's a little easier when you can remember the bad parts, but like others have said, one thing that helps is not to dwell on the past and what you have lost. It's okay to temporarily use a bit of bad psychology if it helps you get through the day. Every day will be a little bit better. Look forward! and try not to indulge in self-pity or a self-destructive mode of thinking. I concentrated on work and other things I like to divert my mind. It's a tough period, but many of us went through it and can empathize. You WIll be okay. hug

RE: Should Beauty Pageants Be Banned?

I voted Yes. Not just for girls but also for boys.

Whether it damages body image, I don't know. It's certainly flattering to be thought of as beautiful at an age when a child becomes conscious of his/her ego and role in society, BUT as the child grows up, he/she will think that looks will get him/her by and perhaps concentrate less on studies. To me, intellectual development is more important than dressing like a clown to get an ad contract.

RE: The next time I get married...

laugh Thanks, chat.

RE: The next time I get married...

thumbs up That takes courage and can-do attitude.

RE: The next time I get married...

I lived in a number of different countries, same as E. Not too many women go out and do that by themselves.

RE: The next time I get married...

Very cool ! peace wave

RE: The next time I get married...

That's precisely who I had in mind when I wrote that. laugh Ever notice that we think a lot alike? laugh

RE: The next time I get married...

Yeah, I'd turn him down. I'd rather be a well-paid mistress than having to fight his kids in court and being mud-slung through the local rags.

Some years ago, I went to the gem section at the Smithsonian. The most beautiful jewels that women wore to cover their decollete were donated from the estates of mistresses of wealthy (married) men grin What can I say. laugh

RE: Korean Desserts

doh

RE: Erdogan's new a thousand room palace.

Your father was a funny man laugh Well, there is some truth to what he said, but that, too is another thread laugh

Agree re the leftist politicians. Many are hypocrites. They'd probably get more support world-over if they weren't and if they had a plan how to actually manage a country esp. the finances and economics. For the time being, we need them just to keep a bit of balance.

The greens.. nice concept, but... Not so long ago, the green party head (a woman) went down to Serbia to evaluate something that they wanted money for. She came back and gave basically the story that she was told which was the biggest load of b.s. (Talk about getting scammed). So they're good for internal politics, but I wouldn't want them in any capacity to deal with foreign politics, tbh.

Well, I'll stop here because the conversation is going off in another direction. wave

RE: Erdogan's new a thousand room palace.

Not at all. Your post sounds emotional, not factual.

RE: Erdogan's new a thousand room palace.

Well said. Nothing I can add to that. thumbs up

RE: Education

Yes, It's a big problem. You're pretty much said it all. They cut corners to produce good stats, when they should be concerned with an educated public. They're completely missing the point of education.

RE: Education

I grew up without standardized tests and I came out alright. Instead of focusing on prepping kids on test taking, the focus was on subject teaching (heavy on math and science).

Standardized testing has its place and I won't say it's bad, but to test at 4th and 8th grade is a waste of time IF you have a standardized education system. So maybe the answer to the question is that it may be wise, but only if it's accompanied by the appropriate changes to the system itself.

RE: John Boehner and Netanyahu?

It's amazing how these rumors persist.

RE: John Boehner and Netanyahu?

That's not true. The US has voted with Israel several times in the UN when almost the entire world objected to Israeli action.

If we're talking the same instance here about the supply of weapons, then we're talking about Israel planning a "preeminent strike" and the US at first refused to say in public that they'd support such an attack. Over the course of several months, Obama did supply Israel with what they wanted. If I'm wrong, please tell me which shipment/incident you speak of.

Rerecordings of songs (Better or Worse)

No right or wrong here. Which do you like better, the original or the remake. (Or if there have been multiple re-recordings, which is your favorite?)

One where the remake is better IMO! is "Tainted Love". The original was by Soft Cell and the remake by Marilyn Manson. Actually I like them both, but MM is my favorite esp. on high vol. It's got more punch. grin

Heritage

... and you got that story from your turkish mammy? laugh

Heritage

Oh most definitely. I have a friend who was adopted and because the records are sealed, he will probably never know where he came from. We've speculated because he looks distinctly nordic, but judging by looks is like shooting at a black cat in a dark room.

The issue of heritage esp. with adoptive cases also arises with illegitimate children where the father disappeared to his home country and the child looks different from the kids in his environment. As you know that was a big issue in Germany after the war when the occupying forces left a lot of kids.

Heritage

I suppose what he thinks of himself is what matters in his case. It's great that he was able to go on that trip. I've heard of many people who ended up somewhere in the world going back to where they would have lived under normal circumstances. It seems to be a profound experience for those folks. There was something on TV here not so long ago about people who cannot reenter Iran and they travel to the Turkish/Iranian border to have a look at their native land.

RE: does anybody here get more mail because they bother their a....s to create a thread?

Not me. People look at my profile after I post a thread. I guess they want to see who wrote that garbage laugh

RE: The Invention Of Lying

I'm negotiating with a hospital right now. The cards are clearly stacked in their favor. So I say whatever is necessary. Truth, lies.. chocolate fudge.

Heritage

I never bothered with any of this stuff when I was young because things were simple. Of course, things never really are all that simple.

The region where my paternal grandmother is born was found to have been a bronze age settlement (2000 b.c.) but I can't find anything predating 1500-something in the way of records.

Do you think the old saying that you have to know where you come from to know where you're going is true?

Heritage

Who do you identify with? considering you were born in England, but are living in Australia?

RE: Erdogan's new a thousand room palace.

Thank you!! My cousin was caught by accident in one of the demonstrations. There are a lot of demonstrations in Germany by Turks who live there against what is happening in Turkey. That government is toxic, in my opinion.

RE: Erdogan's new a thousand room palace.

wave Life, I don't understand your example there about 37 brands. There is no waste. It takes very little time for non-profitable business to go out of business. Investment in marketing or brand management isn't something that small businesses can afford in the first place. What happens with tangible assets like factories is that they're either sold off or they're confiscated or refurbished to house another enterprise. If there is any danger to their manufacturing base, then it's by cheap competition from China or Africa or elsewhere in the middle east.

Turkey is in transition? What do you mean? I know what Erdogan is doing and the man here just told us how it really is. So it sounds like it's not a positive change.

I just read an article yesterday in the Economist about emerging markets and their overall prognosis is the same as what I wrote. Not looking good for them (or anybody else, for that matter).

What I meant with socialism/capitalism and Islam. It's not the same thing as in China. Islam has its own concept of banking, for instance. They're not supposed to charge interest, but yet the money has to come from somewhere to make loans if the demand is greater than the bank's assets and operating costs. There are other precepts in Islam that are incompatible with a capitalist economy.

Honestly, I think Erdogan and his cronies are (pardon my language) effing the whole country.

I also went to see the Ataturk Mausoleum in Ankara. A relative is a scientist in Ankara. I must say that they outdid themselves there with food and buffets. Very very nice spreads and No rats. laugh

Yes, of course, culture and economics aren't always compatible, but unfortunately no country can operate in isolation anymore as the world develops around it, you know. The trick is to have a wise leader, not a corrupt disingenuous despot. Turkey needs another Ataturk!

RE: John Boehner and Netanyahu?

I heard about this last week that Boehner went out on his own to invite that butcher to address congress. Maybe it was within his power to do so behind Obama's back, but I object to that crazy, dangerous war monger addressing congress. What does he want? Nuke the Arabs at our expense?
