I voted Yes. Not just for girls but also for boys.
Whether it damages body image, I don't know. It's certainly flattering to be thought of as beautiful at an age when a child becomes conscious of his/her ego and role in society, BUT as the child grows up, he/she will think that looks will get him/her by and perhaps concentrate less on studies. To me, intellectual development is more important than dressing like a clown to get an ad contract.
not everything revolves around women so no beauty contest should not be banned. the same principle involves women;men;dogs;houses;cars; and magazines like cosmopolitan and etc.

I'm neither pro nor anti-feminist.
....but do feel beauty pageants place too much importance on the "outer"
True beauty radiates from within. I've known women and men who would not be considered outwardly conventionally attractive, to shine.....it may be a twinkle in their eye, their smile, sense of humour, personality. True beauty lies within and they don't need to don a swimsuit or slinky costume for it to be seen.
So, no, don't actually have any interest in following beauty pageants/Top Model and suchlike.

Yes I think they should continue with beauty pageants because they keep small businesses afloat including "specialist dress makers" , "hairdressers" and " muff Waxers".
Lara_: Do they really damage body image? Discuss with respect.
We have laws in place which prevent the strong from devouring the weak. But this should be the limit for the constraints the weak place upon the strong. I don't think we should extend these laws so that the ugly can dictate over the beautiful.
Civilisation is supposed to be a co-existing hierarchy of the inferior and superior, do not crush the best amongst us or the world will be a much uglier, more miserable and deceitful place.
[quote=robbenadele) well i think the other girl should be ban, she couldn't control her temper, and i think she might have been used and promised the crown.
There's too much emphasis on being vain and in this day and age, everyone is gravitating to this superficial looks. Some of them can't remember what is the real colour of their eyes or natural hair anymore. Everything is so fake for them.........

rohaan: I am running for Mr. Most Cutie World. Will you vote for me? (hint--I am like, really hot. Trust me..... )
You get my vote. In fact, I will bribe the judges so you win easily.
We're both adults so I think we're entitled to be in a pageant if we wish. It's when children are used to boost a parents ego that it gets a bit uncomfortable.
