They deserve jail time in my opinion. Maybe that will teach them a lesson and after they do their time, they should be ordered to do a substantial amount of time doing community service to organizations that work with veterans and homeless shelters.
It's a difficult situation to deal with from day to day and even worse for children involved. Walking around on egg shells daily, worrying about their health, sometimes drunk driving worries, etc
Alcoholism
And sometimes it means that they have to hit rock bottom in order to get help.
