Statistics don't inform you whether people are trapped in unhappy marriages but can't escape as they are totally dependent on being accepted in their community and the consequences for opting out of their marriage might be catastrophic for them and their family.
Sometimes the reasons those marriages stay together is fear and lack of freedom to split. Even in the west people stay in unhappy marriages due to financial reasons so you can bet people stay in unhappy marriages in poorer regions for financial reasons and the social and other consequences that would arise if they split up.
Sometimes when an arranged marriage takes place the bride can be an extremely young child.
Sometimes the parents of the bride get some reward from the parents of the groom and it is akin to a sale of a female child or woman.
There's lies, damn lies and then there's statistics.
Depends on how long you end up spending together and whether you might have missed out on meeting someone else you might have loved and maybe not lost during that period.
I think the perception of these groups that we see in the media is the product of the elites - the PC media, PC people who are now the establishment and Politicians.
The perceptions of people who aren't PC or Politicians are based on their own experiences.
The elite don't say these groups are problems in Society.
I don't think you realise who the elite is or what the non-elite think about these groupings.
Some of the elite have caused financial crises yet how much do you hear the PC movement actually doing anything concrete about it? I thought a party of the left was supposed to be in power yet we get Irish Water with it's high wages and bonuses while yellow pack wages for newly qualified nurses were introduced resulting in Irish nurses moving abroad for work.
Business parties run this country aided by a PC party.
Ordinary low-income Irish people who don't complain are the worst affected and least represented group of all yet the PC media and PC people spend less time advocating on their behalf.
As you well know Anna, I got no sleep whatsoever as you had me "up" all night so as far as I can tell in my exhausted state, it was really good for me.
I won't ask you did the earth move for you but how many times did it move?, I lost count after ten.
There is sometimes an irony that people who are working and who would like more kids and who would look after them properly can't afford kids due to high rent and taxes and SOME people who aren't working have lots of kids, don't look after them seem to be not much worse off.
An intelligent young couple in their mid twenties would choose to have as many kids as possible in as short a time as possible and try get rent allowance or social housing if they don't think they will be able to get jobs that will have a net pay that will ever be enough to rent somewhere nice or afford a mortgage.
Is that intelligence?
Ireland encourages cuteness, not intelligence or decency. Politicians make the rules after all.
While I went on to being married for 30 years with a man that is so giving and full of compassion. Although that marriage seemed to have withstood all weathers in a relationship, I failed when we lost all our houses and assets in the economic crash...
I don't know what you mean by "I failed..." but I think your Government, Regulatory system and banks failed the people of the US. Being human it is hard to cope with a high level of financial stress. Go easy on yourself. Few people can cope with huge things like high financial stress.
Sounds like you eventually met someone really lovely. If someone really lovely loved you for 30 years it's a very good reflection on you.
I think I would like to have a say in what car you were going to buy. It should be a joint decision. I would also ask for your input in to what car I would buy.
Same goes for going out to eat. Men tend to like less exotic food and women often will try more exotic food.
One person shouldn't always be in control but if you suggest things first then it appears that the person is in control if they give an opinion on that as they have the last say because they are responding to you.
Maybe your judgement isn't always great and your ex wanted to veto your decisions.
You stayed for just under 24 months - that is a long time.
I wouldn't be rushing to judgement to think you were being controlled without more information or hearing the other side. I don't trust your judgement on what a long time is as just under 24 months if a controlling relationship would seem like a long time.
No offence, just saying your point of view might be subjective.
