I learned about it from a technician at the store where I bought an Android phone 8 years ago. It reads your contact list and allows you to swipe letters or numbers on the screen to QUICKLY find names in your list.
Sadly, Google discontinued the app in 2017, but I'm able to clone it from phone to phone whenever I upgrade.

I found with so many active members the forums move quickly. If they had different categories, it would be easier to follow and not disappear off the front page when you miss a few days.
While it's appropriate for parents to 'oversee' texting of their young children, at some point it should taper off. That is unless they don't show maturity for being allowed to have a phone.
Text messages can be deleted. If a kid knew his parents were reading his texts, he/she could easily delete them.
