No, it is not a polite way of saying it matters......I have made my life about travel, about meeting, knowing and befriending people of diverse cultures---
I do not do that because I am POLITE about cultural and ethnic differences...I do it because I find it interesting.....!
I have never yet failed to find that all my little worries are nothing in the greater scheme of things....all in all..I have been a very lucky person...
I don't think ethnicity matters or should matter as far as judging people or stereotyping them or being xenophobic...but where people come from, their cultural and religious and even physical differences can be interesting...how boring the world would be if we were all the same...
I should have added, that in the relationship that began very tepidly, and grew over several years to a very deep love, it was the most satisfying of my relationships because of that deep love...others started out intense and gradually fell apart...this one started out tepid and grew into a very deep and wonderful love..as I said, it ended for other reasons, but we remained very close friends for a long time, until our lives took very divergent courses.
So, I think that 'falling in love' is a misnomer and not a good idea...learning to love someone, building a relationship, etc. is better. Not expecting anyone to be the 'perfect' one for you...
I believe in the part of the article I put in bold...that having too many expectations at first, and a very romantic idea about love, probably leads to disappointment and eventually the end of the relationship. Love should grow over time...I have experienced such a situation..not having that much interest at first, but experiencing the growth of love over time...the relationship did end...so I can' t say it worked out...but ended due to alcoholism and major life goals...So, I think if we are looking for the perfect mate, he/she isn't there...that you build a relationship over time, not just happen on 'the one.'
I think because of the serious problems it would cause for this person, I would urge him/her to go back and face the music asap before it gets worse. But I would not turn anyone in....
