Ok...a serious answer. I think people are going hungry in the States. I am surprised too...but there are people who are suffering despite all the social services and despite it being a rich country. Granted, poverty there is not poverty in 3rd world countries, but true suffering does exist.
One is the situation of the elderly. It comes down to mental capacity, I think. Some elderly people slip through the cracks. They want to be independent and live on their own. They may refuse help because of pride. They are unaware of meals on wheels, for example, or refuse it because of pride. Their SS check is small and their rent and utilties are high, plus the cost of medicines, even with Medicare. They have little left over for food and some eat barely at all....for some reason, somehow, they slip through all the services in the States and go hungry, or are hungry. They may not die of starvation, but they are suffering.
A documentary I once watched showed the situation of a young single mother and her children living in conditions you wouldn't imagine for the States. The mother was ignorant, uneducated, and possibly mentally handicapped to some level, i.e., not very bright. They lived in the country, away from any city, in a very rural area in an old, falling apart trailer. They did not have a car. There was no man/husband/father to help out. She had no job and several children. They were just barely surviving. They did not have running water or electricity. She received welfare, but did not manage it well. There was not enough food stamps to feed the whole family well for the whole month. Bottom line, she did not know how to work the system because of her mental/emotional limitations and she and her kids were really suffering. Were they starving? No, but part of the months they were really, really hungry. The social services of the state she lived in were limited....not much was provided because it was a poor state, and living in the country instead of the city seemed to be a limitation because of lack of access to services. There are people living like this...stark poverty...not getting adequate social services, etc.
I don't believe it is an 'in built' urge...come on...it's a culturally implanted urge...Most of the men I've been close to do not have an interest or not a very strong one in watching sports on tv, although most did/were actively involved in one sport or another..as am I. So,it's a choice,an interest,ok... We all have our interests. Watching sports on TV can take up a lot of time and if you have a partner who is not interested, it is a lot of time not shared. So, for example, every evening during baseball season, you come home from work and watch a game, maybe even eating dinner in front of the TV, then after the game you watch the commentary...almost every night for the whole season....(my guy didn't do this, not this much--but this is an example of what may be more typical or of what your potential lady was concerned about)...She wants a partner, a friend, a companion and is not interested in TV sports, so what's in all this for her? Nothing. So, I would not be interested in such a guy...I'd want someone with more diverse interests...So, just find a woman who likes to watch sport on tv too or who doesn't care...some are out there. I think a lot of it is how much time is involved.....can be literally hours, every day, weekends, holidays, etc. Very boring and lonely for your partner.
Okay, I'm one of those ladies...I don't like men who sit around watching sports on tv, talking about sports all the time, etc. I've only been involved with one guy who did that, and it was baseball, so fortunately only for one season...
I guess it's because it takes up a lot of time and it seems very juvenile. These are games and some guys take them so seriously. Also, if you like sports, then why not play them...go hiking, skiing, swimming, running, play football/socker/baseball with friends, etc. instead of sitting in front of a tv or at a bar drinking and eating and yelling at a tv screen. Well, in the end, it's a matter of taste for one thing...I'm interested in men who basically share my world vision and interests, although don't expect to be joined at the hip...
I don't spend hours shopping or anything...not doing girly things...so I can't be accused of hyprocrisy. Your lady friend that wanted to know how much time you spent watching sports probably wanted to know how much she would have to give up of time with her partner...rather than doing things together, you're in front of the TV and she is not interested. Best thing is to find a woman who also likes to watch tv sports...
Can your dog tell me if there is a heaven that includes animals and when I die I will meet up with my dog and my cat who both left me some years ago. I miss them a lot.
Oh, I agree. One time I was with a guy, we went to a play and then a walk in the park, it was snowing...kissing in the park at night in the snow...Wow...one of those moments you never forget!!!
1. I don't know anything about the list, haven't been keeping up with the thread. 2. I'm not really lookin' on here--more in the real world--but don't tell the mods... (I guess is someone really knocked my socks off on here I'd give it a shot[that was for the mods]) 3. I'm too crazy and neurotic for his list. 4. I don't like lists and contests and such so don't really want to be included. 5. I'm too crazy and neurotic for his list.
