The thought from others has been, if the criminal knows you have a gun, it will deter them from robbing you. How does the robber know you have a gun under your pillow?
Do you lock up the gun when people come to your house?
That was a nice thing to say but I have to attend to my job soon. I've run dry of ideas trying to show what my intent was with this thread.
Hunters think I hate them....not true. I don't believe in killing animals unless you skin them for a coat and eat every piece of flesh from the body like the indians did. To kill an animal just put it's head on the wall is......I'll keep that to myself.
If someone lives in a high crime area such as South Central, California where there are gangs, you might think you need a firearm to protect your family. My answer to that is: move out of the area and leave the guns to the gun shows.
Each day we hear about drugs seized at the airport. Where there are drugs, there are guns. Drug dealers carry guns to kill anyone that gets in their way. They are defending themselves against law enforcement to enable them to get the drugs on the street.
Are any of the posters saying that the 2nd Amendment gives them the RIGHT to do this?
jessejess47: NO,it does not.I own a few guns, not many, one 20 GA.youth shotgun, one 20 GA.22 over and under, somewhat rare gun,12 GA, pump, and a 22 ,14 shot semi-auto, I dont hunt, but I did when I was younger, however my son and I really enjoy skeet shooting. It is just good times for us to be together ,father and son.If you take guns away from the people what does anyone think this will do, stop the criminals from having them I think not. But I do not see why anyone needs these auto assault weapons, unless you plan on a few drive by shootings.I think we may need to address this ,but to ban firearms all together I am not so for that.
[/I agree with your post Jessee. I am not against your sport of skeet shooting with your son or anyone who hunts for deer, elk, rabbits, etc. I am interested in how to solve the problem of criminals getting guns. I don't have a suggestion how to do it. That's why I wrote the thread.
I wasn't looking for people to defend why they have guns.
I'm looking for a suggestion how to take them out of the hands of criminals.
Someone suggested that we should teach children when they are young what the consequences are if they break the law. Good idea.
A few years ago there was a program that took a group of teenagers to a prison so they could see what their life would be like if they killed someone. All of the prisoners told the kids they shouldn't deal with guns, that their life would be hell if they are incarcerated.
The longer the thread gets, the more it is being taken out of proportion.
Several times I said:
I am not against people who own guns legally.
I also said I am not again hunters. There are gun collectors who have a license. Those people are not the problem.
The initial subject of the thread is to ask you, how do we keep guns out of the hands of criminals?
I asked should we add a codicil to the 2nd Amendment. I NEVER said do away with the 2nd Amendment.
I admitted that I had an education from this as I did not know that the government of the United States was beheading people. Rest assured, I will do some research on that.
Look, guys, I don't have the answer to how we can lower crime. All I did was ask for your opinion.
But you seem to think it's more efficient to handle violence with more violence. March on Washington when you don't like what they do. Why aren't you marching on Washington now. They have put us in debt of trillions of dollars. Go down there and tell them "You're not going to take it anymore". Put a gun in their face, show them you mean business.
I'm pretty sure that the law says you cannot shoot a trespasser that is OUTSIDE the house but you can shoot them if they are a threat to you inside the house.
I am under the impression we are in a discussion. Each of us has a different opinion. It is called communication. It's a good thing.
I don't agree with you or others who believe that a gun should be in the same cabinet with the flour and sugar. That's my RIGHT (as you say) to have that opinion. You have a RIGHT to your opinion.
Just because you can't convince me that your way is "the way" there's no need to talk down to me.
You prefer to show how powerful you are with a gun in your hand.
My idea of power comes with using my brain to find a better way for the problem. I may not understand the 2nd Amendment completely, but I listened to your opinion without being condescending and arrogant.
If we take up a gun everytime someone ticks us off, we'll all be dead.
True, they will be bought on the black market. Is it necessary to teach young children "in school" as some have said how to handle a firearm. Children should be learning how to ride they bicycle, etc., not how to point and shoot. It seems as though some are saying a gun should be a staple in the kitchen just like flour and sugar. I really don't get it
Agree, agree, agree. But, I cannot convince them that being free and easy to have guns is okay no more then they can convince me that it is the RIGHT of the people. They are hiding behind the 2nd Amendment.
They keep saying everyone should learn at an early age how to use a gun. Guns are for killing! There is no need to learn how to use it unless they plan to kill someone.
You and other keep saying the 2nd Amendment is meant to protect us from our government.
I asked, but no one answered.... if our government tried to become a dictatorship, are you and many others going to pack up your guns and go to Washington and shoot everyone in the Capitol?
THIS IS CONRADS RESPONSE: That is the General Idea,if need be!
Conrad did say he would march on Washington with the intent to shoot everyone. I'm not making up this stuff, you guys are writing it.
You did say it Dru. "Would I shoot everyone in the Capitol? No, I'm not deranged". But you would go with the intent of shooting someone otherwise you wouldn't take a gun.
I wasn't getting testy, just pointing out that you haven't done your research, and that it's a subject I have researched and read on, and suggesting you do further research. No need to get defensive, either.
I would do what it took to protect my rights. If our government tried to become a dictatorship, I would join the citizen's militia that would form, and those of our military who would fight against it. We would have civil war again.
Would I shoot everyone in the Capitol? No, I'm not deranged. I wouldn't take out innocent citizens, nor those who were trying to defend our rights.
Would I march against the Capitol to defend those rights if they were endangered? Absolutely. I've been willing to be a soldier before, I would be again as a citizen to overthrow a dictator.
GUN CONTROL....is it a good thing
This is becoming redundant. We don't agree but that's okay.
