The drummer, a guy by the name of Mike Foster, is a childhood friend of mine. They made it huge in the 90's and still tour today. I see Mike from time to time now as he lives about 5 miles from me and his daughter is in absolute lust with my oldest son...lol.

A person is not going to get tasered for shoplifting. However that same person might get tasered for getting beligerent during or after an arrest. Who's to say that person might not beat an officer to death to keep from getting arrested and going to jail? Who knows? How could you know? The fact remains...it's a very viable alternative to beating the snot out of someone with a nightstick, baton, whatever, or shooting a person.
And, my argument remains, a person shot in the chest with the taser.....a LESS THAN LETHAL weapon.......is much more likely to survive...than a person shot in the chest with a LETHAL weapon.
A Taser is Less Than Lethal...not Non Lethal.....saying something is NON LETHAL invites a hell of an argument. A kitten can be lethal, so can a rubber band, under the proper circumstances.
So...Cop says FREEZE....and you don't FREEZE....you just keep on walking away.....
Or...he says DROP IT....and you don't DROP IT......

You've seen those cases on the news because they were inflammatory and questionable. Percentage wise of actual uses I would imagine that things like that, are by comparison, infantecimal.
one of my best friends is a cop.....I grew up with the guy...have known him for over thirty years
He's a Rifle Expert....carries a modified M-16 in his cruiser. He also carries a Taser....and some kind of spray...it's not pepper spray but some kind of chemical spray.
He got into a tussle with a suspect.....the dude sprays my friend (the cop) in the face with the chemical spray....and reached for the cops weapon...when he got hit with 50,000 volts from that Tazer...
changed his mind quick as a bit*h........
Now, of all the alternatives.....9mm to the head or chest, high powered rifle to the same, night stick upside the head, or tazer....which one would you rather see deployed? Enquiring minds want to know.

If you are in a situation where it comes down to needing LTL force.....you deserve what you get. I would imagine that the odds of death are much less getting shot with the Tazer than a 9mm.
