I'm living in the UK now and I get my rent and council tax paid for me, get free medical, including prescriptions, and I get £67.50/week to feed and clothe myself, which I think is fine. Obviously, while I am looking for work, I can't go on holidays, buy nice things or have a social life but of course that is how it should be as I am unemployed afterall. I am getting the most basic benefits, as that is all I am interested in getting, I am sure if I were devious and dishonest I could get alot more by defrauding the system, like my Ukranian 'buddy' back in Ireland. So all I am saying is that it's good to have a welfare system but it has its flaws.
That's my point exactly, it's nice to have a welfare system, for those who genuinely need it, but there as some serious problems with the current system, in Ireland and the UK. I lived with a Ukranian ( not saying all Ukranians are the same ) just mentioned the fact he is Ukranian because the Ukraine is not part of the EU. Anyway he was on every benefit going and was even able to go on 2 month-long holidays to the USA while he was supposed to looking for work!!
Firstly, I am unemployed and have been for almost a year ( the reason I left Ireland ). And secondly, if you read my post a bit more closely, you would realise I'm not against a welfare system I just believe that in Ireland and the UK they get too much.
I grew up in a country with no social welfare, I think it is good to have some sort of welfare system as apposed to nothing at all but in Ireland and the UK I think they have waaay too many benefits and people are spoilt, a lot feel that it is their god-given right to have a roof over their head despite the fact that they have never worked a day in their lives. I heard somewhere that here in the UK some people even get money towards a new car every few years!! i could be wrong, but it wouldn't suprise me if it were true.
Really makes you wonder about the so-called 'morality' of religion. I was raised without religion in my life, never set foot in a church, or sought the advice of a pastor or rabbi etc and I would never even think about raising my hand to a woman. The world would be a far better place without religion, that is a fact.
Im staying off the drink tonight, trying to quit smoking and I know if i drink I'll smoke, so have to abstain for a couple of weeks at least, which will be tough as I havent gone more than 10 days without drinking since I was 17
I was thinking the exact same thing, I have many nieces and nephews and they used to do that ALL the time. It's annoying when coming from a child but just doesn't cut it as a defence coming from an adult. Maybe it's ok if you only do it occasionally but constantly insulting people and then saying 'I was only kidding' gets tiring quickly.
I agree that most sequels are crap but there are a few that arent too bad like Rocky 2, Rambo 2, Babe 2 and Toy Story 2 and sometimes they even improve over the original such as Godfather 2, Aliens, The Empire Strikes Back. Oh I forgot to mention another brilliant trilogy is Toy Story
The original 3 Star Wars movies were definitely the best trilogy ever made, the Godfather doesn't win cos Godfather 3 was so crap lol. I know they are a bit dated now, but considering the technology they had in those days and what they managed to achieve is actually short of miraculous, even the story was brilliant and the acting pretty good. After Star Wars, I'd have to say the Indiana Jones movies, can watch them over and over, and they never lose their appeal.
Yes, those agencies are a waste of time, they re-do your CV for you, then you never hear from them again ( unless u call as u said ). Better to just do your own thing, look in papers etc. I know everything is done online these days and they say hitting the pavements with your CV in hand is a waste of time, but I have applied for quite a few jobs by doing that, saw a sign on a window just yesterday ( okay when I went inside and asked about it, they just said apply online haha ) but the point is if I hadn't gone out yesterday I wouldn't have known about it.
I know exactly how you feel, I've been unemployed now for almost a year. Tried moving, thinking that might help, but still struggling, things just as bad here as in Ireland. I've been here now 5 months and only had 2 interviews!! I apply for roughly 2-3 jobs/day ( depending if there is anything to apply for ). 90% of jobs I apply for I never even hear back from. Since moving here I've had my CV professionally done by a recruitment agency and I've completed an online MS Office course, but doesn't seem to have made an ounce of difference. Everyone keeps telling me to keep my chin up, but somedays it's really tough.
Well that goes without saying of course, although that said i'm sure there are people who have posted more in the last month than I have in the last year. Click on the 'Top 100' tab at the top of the screen, they have all sorts of interesting info.
Just looked at the Top 100 here on CS and was interesting to see who, of the people in the Irish forums, was the most prolific. They were: 1. Darren in 20th place with just under 15000 posts. 2. Godsgift in 33rd place 3. Vinny in 36th place, and 4. Ella in 43rd place
I have posted roughly 1500 times, so got a long way to pass Darren. How many post have you made?
I agree completely, nothing annoys me more They used to smoke 40/day now the mere smell of cigarette smoke makes them feel physically ill I mean even 20 pounds of freshly-ejected horse crap would not make me feel phsically ill, maybe slightly queasy at most.
