Equality among whom? the poor people of different countries? or among all people? I'm afraid it's gonna be the former, rather than the latter, in which case they have nowhere to escape to.
We don't disagree on the benefit of being able to communicate with everyone else... I'm just afraid that the non-official languages will be diluted and die. That's why in EU all members' languages are official.
Multiculturalism has failed... IMHO populism by Merkel in line with the current tide of xenophobia in Europe.
The real underlying problem is economic. Unemployment is up throughout Europe and US; cheap labor is imported, or production lines and services outsourced. Citizens feel betrayed by their governments; they see the pie shrinking and immigrants from poorer countries claiming a bigger piece, that's when they start complaining about their neighbors' different language/customs.
Businesses love cheap imported labor that they can exploit. Politicians are in the pockets/for the interests of the big business, yet they need their constituents votes' once every few years.
There shouldn't be total freedom of movement without a unified economy; otherwise the countries with better wages, benefits and social nets get overburdened and their citizens shafted. Similarly, there shouldn't be unchecked levels of immigration; only immigration to fill positions that can't be filled from the country's own workforce. Europe has both problems to deal with; US deals with the second mainly.
Swiss: I find no problem with your thread, so long as it doesn't point to the person. Your comment to his blog was a really bad idea. Not only you revealed who the person is, but you started what can easily evolve into an ugly fight that'll get you both banned. It wasn't necessary; it'd be much more civil to let him express his views and side of the story, provided he doesn't mention you. But yeah, mistakes happen and we all do them--we learn by first acknowledging them.
Mindfful: I agree with your take on the situation, but after the first couple of comments, what's the deal? You ain't her mother, or a CS moderator... and you overdid it... so it's time to stop. You could also be a bit softer in the delivery of your message; then your comment may have a more positive impact.
Ain't sure but I think he was sweating drops of blood in anticipation of his ordeal. Maybe you mean statues or paintings of Jesus... As for Buddha, my understanding is that he's both... along the lines of what Maharaj said: Wisdom tells me I am nothing; love tells me I am everything. Between the two my life flows. (though he wasn't a Buddhist)
True... though there are tears of anger, joy etc. I can't classify the person who cries the most as the most compassionate... Jesus and Buddha weren't in tears every day, as far as we know
Even if the chip ain't implanted on us, and it's embedded on our integrated ID-driver's license-money-medical card, it's scary enough. A card representing everything we are and everything we own

I live in the middle east, in Saudi Arabia, and I've met plenty of kind muslims.
