Who are you? So proud and tall!
You speak of freedom, For one and all,
A wise man, It is said,
Learns by past mistake,
Are we less of a fool,
If the change we don't make?
We are not the same!
And never have been,
For all over the world,
And more we have seen!
Drawn to this land, In search of a home,
Wrapped up in it's beauty,
With our seeds now well sown,
Who is it to choose, For you or for me?
For in my own eyes, we are already free!

settle

Some say life can get you down,
It’s easier to smile!
Please don't frown!
Pick yourself up you fallen star!
Get back in the race!
You could go far!
Live life to the full!
Don’t be sad!
It’s just not cool,
I wonder when I hear these things,
Why do we settle for what life brings?
I don't think I'll ever know why,
I won't settle, I'll just try and try.

the rut11

Where do I go from here
alone again , life is queer
no family or lovers, the occasional friend
this life is driving me round the bend
I must move on, just get away
I'll always make friends along the way
go to where, from here, and how
I just don't know, but maybe somehow
I'll find the way, I know I will
although it all seems so uphill
I'll reach the top and see the view
and show the world what I can do
along the way I'll meet someone
to share my life and make it one.

the rut part 1

The music is soft
the lights are low
I know not where to go
I need inspiration
to get me on my way
I need it mostly every day

I drink my coffee
and think some more
life can be such a bore
yesterday I sat at home
wishing it was the next day
now I feel the very same way

I must move on
get over this hill
or I will remain here still
I see the light
It's fading away
I must move fast to save the day

life in Nilo!

Nikki and Kira, girls of their era

living life to the full, going out on the pull,

they don't cow tow to peer presure,

they don't care what they all say,

living for tomorrow,

for tomorrow is another day.

Going out, havin fun,

sleep all day, forget the sun,

Get up late , whats the date?

who cares!

for tomorrow is another day.

The girls come in to say hello,

we say sit down! have some blow!

Relax! Chill! Chew the fat!

Life's like this! It's not all that,

stay awake, get out of bed,

If life's all work your already dead,

we all sit down and have a jam.

with our favourite rasta man, paint my face the girls say!

For tomorrow is another day.

The clock is stopped It's Nilo time,

to go home now would be a crime,

stay out all night ! we all say,

for tomorrow is another day.

Incense burning, candles alight,

the music's low, let's get it right,

roaches in the pantry, munchies on the bar,

Matte's nice and hot, you've gone too far,

the flat fills up as people go by,

let's stay in and all get high,

we can't go out the moneys spent,

should have stayed home and paid the rent,

why worry ? I hear you say,

for tomorrow is another day.

It's getting late, time for bed,

the sun is rising , the sky is red,

too tired for work, too tired to play,

never mind! I hear you say,

for tomorrow is another day.

Wake up late , clean the flat,

found out It's bigger than that,

later relax, chill with the cat,

went looking for work and found play,

Well tomorrow is another day!

believe

I think of you, so long ago
how we met, why I had to go
It happened so fast, I don't know why
we both fell hard, and made each cry
they say true love lasts
I hope It's true
as I believe, believe in you.

thank you all!

Thank you so much one and all
I am not leaving after all,
I already left ten more years ago
Returning here to reap what I sow.

I did not make my dream come true
Nor meet the one, who would love me true,
Good friends I made some say for life,
One who threatened to be my wife?

You’ve heard of her the story's true
She really beat me black and blue,
This is not sad, it is real life
What fun I've had among the strife.

Nights out that turn so fast to day
Drinking all the worlds troubles away,
Sunsets so braw to make time stand still,
Such beautiful a view from atop the hill.

To meet new people day after day,
Listening keenly to all they say,
Going to work to pay the rent,
Every week the money spent.

Worrying not about life’s woes,
Going with the flow to see where it goes,
Enjoying the smooth enduring the rough,
We all know life is tough!

This is not sad at least not for me,
To go out and be all you can be,
To take hold of life and play your part,
This old boy’s tough with a big heart.

Leaving

I sit at home and wonder now
of this adventure I must take
to leave this country now
will be a case of make or break

A paradise island in the sun
my tropical destination
it sounds too good to be true
why is there hesitation

I have to leave this place now
which has been home to me
for this could be my last chance
my last chance to be free

there is nothing here now
no reason for me to stay
and that is reason enough
for me to go away

I don't know if I am running
running away from home
or whether I am running
to a new life of my own

I have nothing left to lose
I lost it all before
it's time to start anew
start by walking out the door

I will have a funeral service
to bury the past
and think of old friends
as I raise up my glass

one last farewell to my lost love
the one who broke my heart
to move on once and for all
and make a brand new start.

homecoming

I have came back, to where I came
To tell you this, It's no the same
I missed it so every day,
folk would ask me,
Why do I stay,
So far away, fae ma ain kind
There's somethin missin in your mind,
I'm sure it was my heart they meant,
The ache, the love that was absent,
they never new or understood,
I can't explain, I never would!

strangers

You are a stranger to me, as I am to you.
Your silence torments me every day,
I hope there is something you want to say,
Even if it is, just, “stay away!”
In these absent years as you have grown,
To adulthood and a life of your own,
I have always been here thinking of you,
Wanting to know what I could do,
To bridge the gap that’s grown so wide,
To pull you back against the tide,
My life is adrift without you my dear,
My raft has been sinking year after year,
You do not know me! I am the same!
Only years older, and still in pain.

searching

As I am running through my mind,
Searching for something, something I cannot find,
I cannot tell if it is something I have lost,
It is hard to find something you never had!
Did I have it or was it never lost?
Whatever the truth, there will be a cost!
Of time spent looking for something not there,
Of time spent wondering when? or where?
Did I lose something I never had?
Was it not needed? was it bad?
When I can answer this question I ask,
It will not be the end of this task!
I will look again for something new!
something good, something true!
