News - Prosecution of Jan 6 rioters shifts to more serious
Over 300 witnesses have willingly testified before the special Jan 6 committee investigating the Capitol Riot.
With much of the less severe cases already prosecuted, there is now a upshift to the prosecution of more severe cases. For instance, 11 members of the right wing terrorists group, 'Oathkeepers' have been indicted and charged with conspiracy and sedition. A guilty finding will carry up to a 20 year prison sentence.
In addition the Jan 6 committee is now also focused on better confining the spread of lies on social media leading to to conspiracy and sedition.
Again with over 300 witnesses willingly testifying to the committee, they already have a lot of evidence, and a good understanding of most that went on. So, what will likely follow this phase will be the prosecution of those who conducted the most violence, and finally those who planned and inspired the attempt to overthrow the lawful transfer of presidential power with lies.
Yeah, for those who have been evading justice, the time left in their stall is closing in on them, including those, who have refused to testify, as part of a cover up.

In a 6-3 decision SCOTUS has decided the OSHA vaccine mandate is unconstitutional!
The Supreme Court on Thursday issued mixed rulings in a pair of cases challenging Biden administration COVID-19 vaccine mandates, allowing the requirement for certain health care workers to go into effect while blocking enforcement of a mandate for businesses with 100 or more employees.
The latter, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration rule that took effect on Monday, said that businesses with at least 100 employees needed to require workers to get vaccinated, or get tested weekly and wear a mask.
The Court ruled that OSHA lacked the authority to impose such a mandate because the law that created OSHA "empowers the Secretary to set workplace safety standards, not broad public health measures."

Those opening Christmas gifts may receive something unexpected, but one college student received the ultimate surprise when he learned the lottery ticket in his stocking won him $1 million.
Brian Donohue, a mathematics major at the University of Virginia, was the lucky winner of Virginia Lottery's Bank a Million game. A release from Virginia Lottery stated that Donohue's mother purchased the ticket for the December 22 drawing at a Giant Food in Oakton.
Donohue told lottery officials he plans to put his winnings toward his school tuition.
Bank a Million, a lottery game only played in Virginia, has drawings twice each week. The game's top prizes are $1 million, $500,000 and $250,000, depending on what the player wages on the ticket. Winners receive the prize amount after federal and state tax withholdings.
"The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 3.8 million," officials with the Virginia lottery said. "The odds of winning any prize are 1 in 18.3."
Donohue's mother purchased the ticket and chose the numbers for that ticket. All of the numbers she chose matched with the winning numbers. Because they matched, a Bonus Ball number wasn't needed to win the top prize.
Players choose six different numbers that range between one and 40. The Bonus Ball number is not chosen by players.
This is not the first time a Virginia resident won $1 million from a state lottery game.
Dennis Willoughby, a North Chesterfield resident, was buying some chocolate milk for his children from a 7-Eleven location in Richmond and added a scratch ticket to his purchase.
Rather than taking the full $1 million prize in annual payments over the course of 30 years, Willoughby opted to take a one-time payment of $640,205 before taxes.

UK will be one of first countries out of Covid pandemic, says expert

Tuesday saw 379 Covid deaths, the highest number since February last year, but cases were falling as 120,821 were recorded.
Professor David Heymann, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), said the UK is starting to see signs of the disease becoming endemic.
Speaking at a Chatham House online briefing, he said the UK is likely one of the countries with the highest levels of population immunity.
Prof Heymann said the Covid pandemic would not be declared over across the globe “until all countries have completed what they need to do to make this virus more tame and to become endemic”.
He said: “In general, now, the countries that we know best in the northern hemisphere have varying stages of the pandemic.
“And probably, in the UK, it’s the closest to any country of being out of the pandemic if it isn’t already out of the pandemic and having the disease as endemic as the other four coronaviruses.”
The professor said the population immunity was already high in the UK.
He added: “That means immunity against serious illness and death after infection if one is vaccinated, or after re-infection if one has had illness before, and that population immunity seems to be keeping the virus and its variants at bay, not causing serious illness or death in countries where population immunity is high.
“I looked at the ONS (Office for National Statistics) most recent report on population immunity and they estimated about 95 per cent of the population in England and a little less than in other parts of the United Kingdom do have antibody to infection either from vaccination or from natural infection.
“And that antibody, as I said, is keeping the virus at bay. And it’s now functioning more like an endemic coronavirus than one that is a pandemic.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Prof Heymann was quick to draw attention to the fact the majority of those who were seriously ill had not been vaccinated against coronavirus.
“If you look in the intensive care units, you’ll see that unfortunately the majority of those people are not vaccinated,” he said.

The headlines stated a New York man burst into flames after officers used a taser to subdue him. Some details were he appeared intoxicated and doused himself with hand sanitizer. Admitted to a burn unit, the man died 6 weeks later.
The New York attorney general is investigating the man's death.
I've read elsewhere that alcohol based sanitizer can be flammable and the taser had enough electrical energy to set off a spark.
