No one for TENNIS...

I watched a men's tennis tournament last weekend from an undisclosed private court in Palm Beach County.
All I could see was the 2 players and a chair umpire. I didn't see a line umpire. There were no ball boys or other people on the court. Less than 10 people sitting in chairs under tents at least 50 feet away from the court. The tall fence around the court had dark green wind breaker screen so the players were without distraction.
Boom cameras were at the ends of the event and only peered over the top of the fence.

This was a real tournament, but an official match tennis like I've not seen before.

Today, it was women's tennis. Same court.

Sure I've seen practice sessions, took lessons, played on private courts many times.
This tennis was pure-player without the anger, crowd pleaser and emotions of people watching and cheering. I actually enjoyed it more!

Between play, they did a drone view from a few hundred feet and you can see it's a single court in someone's back yard. Maybe 3 acres of land with 20 cars in a row line along the back. No doubt, from the video crew players and coaches.

Except for the players, everyone was wearing an N95 mask.

Beer Snake

A beer snake, or cup snake, is the stacking of numerous plastic beer cups to form a "snake." Beer snakes are most commonly found at sporting events that are played out over many hours.

Conor McGregor down by a leg...

The fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor was stopped when the left leg of McGregor broke!
He was carried out of a Las Vegas Octagon on Saturday night with his leg in a splint.
Is his career over? His mouth didn't think so!

Are you ready for some (American) Football !

Due to Covid-19, it will be a strange season.
Indeed, there will be no pre-season games.
They are literally kicking off tomorrow night
with the Texans visiting the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Now baseball has had their problems with Covid-19,
quite a few games had to be postponed due to infections,
and that's a MUCH more socially distanced game than American football.

So, for a game with many huddles and lots of physical contact,
it will be interesting to see how they will take virus spreading precautions.
Perhaps instead of water bottles, there will be sanitizer bottles
rushed out to huddles. laugh
The next superbowl champions may be the team with the most players infection-free.

Nonetheless, I'll be watching.

"The Game"

I went to the model airfield this morning to fly helicopters. Miserable winds gusting to 20 miles per hour made it better to sit under the shade and BS with the other pilots there. Two guys had their scale models out today, both were of the Aérospatiale Gazelle and one was in the yellow rescue paint scheme.

They only fly them once or twice doing very conservative scale-like maneuvers... nothing risky as a few completed models are valued upwards of $20,000.

One guy packed up early and I said "Are you leaving?"
His response was "Yeah, I gotta get home to watch the game"

My first thought was 'the game? you must mean the president and republicans refusal to accept the certified elections results?'

When I got home and turned on the TV, I see it was the Miami Dolphins football game he must have been talking about.

Different game.

Olympic Committee Bans Black Lives Matter Apparel and Could Punish Protesting Athletes

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The postponed 2020 Summer Olympics are just 80 days away from taking place in Tokyo against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic. It will be an Olympics unlike any other — with no international fans.

Athletes will have to pass a battery of nasal COVID-19 tests and are just one positive result away from ruining years of hard work and training.

Millions of eyes will be on the Games all over the world. It’s a tremendous stage — both for athletic triumph and possibly social change. Who can forget this image of Americans Tommie Smith and John Carlos with fists raised during the 1968 Olympic Games to protest racism.

The International Olympic Committee got very granular with what is not allowed. It said specifically that the slogan “Black Lives Matter” will be banned from athlete apparel at the Summer Olympics.

It’s part of the IOC’s long-standing ban on “demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda” on the playing field, the medal stand or during the Games’ official ceremonies.

More generic words like “peace,” “respect,” “solidarity,” “inclusion” and “equality” will be allowed on T-shirts.

So far, the IOC has not said what types of punishment athletes could face for violating these rules. It only said it would treat each violation on a case-by-case basis.
