Google Play Apps

I'm just kind of curious if anyone has found any really useful apps( I know they all are useful) that can be downloaded on Google Play. If you have a teenage kid thats related to a lion then Life 360 is handy, and you can keep discreet tabs on him.uh oh (or maybe not)

Your Opinion

Would it not be beneficial to all parties, Connecting Singles and Members, if Connecting Singles would incorporate an app similar to Zello to replace the Chatroom?

Would it not help to make it so much easier discerning between a scammer and a true potential match?

Hope this idea/suggestion does not cause too much discord among the scammers who have free reign. laugh

Relax its weekend.

XXXXX is a free walkie-talkie app for smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers. The app requires an Internet connection to work properly, whether it’s through Wi-Fi or a mobile data network. Unlike the standard calls you can make on the device of your choice, Zello connects you to fellow users and radio channels where large groups can talk regardless of distance.

Take note: I am not promoting any app or website.

The CS wish list...

If I could have some CS wishes, my list wouldn't be too long. Well, maybe it would. The first request would be to be able to view profiles without them knowing and not giving up the ability of knowing who view me. Kinda like having your cake and eating it too. Going stealth has it's drawbacks. Unfortunately as simple of a request could have everyone using it and soon no one would 'see' any profiles here.

Another request would be to log on and appear offline. All the hits I get are within the first 20 minutes of being online as members float to the top of the list of who's online by the order of when they log on.

Allow foreign (Asian) languages so we read what they say in their language when they don't know English.
Chinese, Japanese, Thai, also Russian.

New Technology And You

Are you skeptical/sceptical about some new inventions or technology yet to come? Don’t be but if you insist, don’t talk about it too much. Some very bright and knowledgeable people made colossal fools of themselves in the past. Don’t let the same happen to you.laugh

I have a few examples here for you, in the reverse sequence that it happened, of how people have made giant arseholes of themselves. Many of them were proved wrong with-in their own lifetimes. Bill Gates and Ken Olsen were proved wrong within ten years, Lord Kelvin in two years and Admiral William Leahy swallowed his words within months.doh

"640k ought to be enough for anybody."
Bill Gates, 1981

"There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.
Ken Olson, founder, chairman & president of DEC, 1977

"Television won't last because people will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night."
Producer Darryl Zanuck, 20th Century Fox, 1946

"The atom bomb will never go off - and I speak as an expert in explosives."
U.S. Admiral William Leahy in 1945

"I think there is a world market for maybe five computers."
IBM chairman Thomas Watson, 1943

"A rocket will never be able to leave the earth's atmosphere."
The New York Times, 1936

"There is no likelihood man can ever tap the power of the atom."
Nobel Prize-winning physicist Robert Milliken, 1923

"The wireless music box has no imaginable commercial value. Who would pay for a message sent to nobody in particular?"
David Sarnoff's associates during the 1920s.

"Airplanes are interesting toys, but of no military value."
General Marechal Foch, Professor of Strategy. Circa 1910

"Everything that can be invented has already been invented."
Charles H. Duell, director of the U.S. Patent Office, 1899

"Radio has no future, x-rays are clearly a hoax and the aeroplane is scientifically impossible."
Royal Society president Lord Kelvin, 1897-99

"The telephone has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us."
An internal Western Union memo, 1876

"Louis Pasteur's theory of germs is ridiculous fiction."
Pierre Pachet, Professor of Physiology at Toulouse, 1872

"Well-informed people know it is impossible to transmit the voice over wires and that were it possible to do so, the thing would be of no practical value."
Boston Post, 1865

"Drill for oil? You mean drill into the ground to try and find oil? You're crazy!"
Drillers who Edwin L. Drake tried to enlist to his project to drill for oil in 1859

My advice – Don’t comment on future technology.grin

Drinkable Water From Toilet To Tap.

Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia, is one of the few cities in Africa where you can safely drink tap water.applause

Though some residents still find it hard to swallow, they have been drinking the own waste since 1968. More than 25% of the water supply in Windhoek is reclaimed from municipal sewage water. In the 46 years since its inception, there had not been a single incident of bad water. The city is inhabited by 322,500 people.wow

Namibia is one of the driest countries in the world. The average annual rainfall is around 370mm, while the average evaporation rate is 3400mm. The nearest perennial river is 700km from the city. With its growing population, the capital faced the choice of population control or looking at alternative water sources.help

While it seems not yet possible to extract edible proteins from sewage, water is a reality. Australia is looking into it and so is California. It is an expensive process, but expensive water is better than no water at all.hmmm

3D printers

are a great bit of technology, For the past few years I have been seen some very creative fun uses for what I considered to be toys.
I was however amazed to see this article,

I personally think it to be one of the best uses to date seen to promote their use for anything other than toys.

A tribute to the ingenuity and spirit of Humanity yay

What was the last thing that you seen if ever, That made you proud to be part of the race. comfort ?

Have a great day My friends wave

When Bloggers die .....

Lots of us here are getting on a bit could drop dead or just have a stroke loose the power to tap out a message so what happens to the profile ? I see profiles here that have not been used for 3 or 4 yrs does it matter to people that when theyre going to be dead that theres all this crap left behind or do lbloggers see it as their legacy ? C.S. doesn't delete stuff we write its out there, no taking it back . I think its wrong that CS has this power . On a bad day you could write something you wish you hadn't.....it's unfair . At least when you delete Facebook its all gone .....what a relief .

Capacity Issues

I have an e-cigarette and it’s doing my head in. I am constantly having to fill the damned thing with liquid. This is because there is an EU ruling that e-cigarettes must not have a tank capacity of more than 2ml, which is a minuscule amount.

As e-cigarette manufacturers also sell their products outside of the EU, they make them with tanks of a higher capacity than 2 measly ml. So, in order to be able to sell inside the EU, they modify them. This typically involves incorporating a volume restricting object into the tank, usually a cylindrical insert pressed onto the central column going up through it.

It occurred to me that this cylindrical, capacity reducing object should not be too difficult to remove, or at least tamper with. I do have a predisposition to tamper with things. My first idea was to drill holes in it, assuming that it would be hollow and the holes would allow the liquid to occupy the inside of the cylindrical, capacity reducing object, thus giving me increased capacity.

I tried six different drill bits on that bastard and even broke one in the process, but made no more than a tiny indentation in the surface. What that Mother Kisser (self censorship) is made of I don’t know, but I’m sure it doesn’t need to be that tough.

Next thought: angle grinder. I had an angle grinder, and I can think of no reason why I wouldn’t have brought it with me when I moved into this place, yet find it can I not. It’s almost enough to make me believe in God, and fancy he is having fun at my expense.

Am I the only person living in the EU who cannot -nay, will not- accept a paltry 2ml restriction on the capacity of my e-cigarette?

Phasing out 3G service...

Technology moves forward. Maybe you remember when FM radio was broadcast entirely on an analog signal. Then stations added a digital band of information was simulcast along with the digital signal. The FCC changed all that and stations are fully digital sending streams of digitally encoded signals. The same thing happened with TV. If you were receiving broadcasts from an antenna on an old TV set, you had to add a digital receiver to convert the new digital signals.
The purpose for that was to send more data over the same bandwidth. Effectively adding more stations on the same channel.

Cell phone services are all switching to 5G, but the majority of customers are still using 4G. Surprising there is a small percentage of devices that can only work on a 3G signal.
If you are using an old style flip-phone, chances are it's on 3G. Lots of communication devices like tablets require 3G service.
Depending on your carrier, some of the major companies will be phasing out 3G. That change affects many old-style life-alert systems and discount carrier cellphones used only for 911. Unless they upgrade, they will be totally useless.

I'm reading the phase-out could happen as early as the first quarter 2022.

Windows 11

Yesterday and today I upgraded my Windows 10 laptop to Windows 11. I started the upgrade yesterday at 11:30 AM and it was still downloading and installing when I went to bed last night at 9:30 PM. 3 more hours this morning of installing and I finally got the computer to operate about 1 hour ago. Desktop looks the same. Very few visible changes.

A lot of time for a little nothing.
