Windows 11

Yesterday and today I upgraded my Windows 10 laptop to Windows 11. I started the upgrade yesterday at 11:30 AM and it was still downloading and installing when I went to bed last night at 9:30 PM. 3 more hours this morning of installing and I finally got the computer to operate about 1 hour ago. Desktop looks the same. Very few visible changes.

A lot of time for a little nothing.

In a few days expect an upgrade that will also take hours to download, hours to install and probably cause the laptop to crash.

MS have just asked Apple to supply them with some software engineers to solve teething problems in Win 11, as they are unable to fix it themselves.
I don't want eleven on my pc running 10, but would spring for a small pc with it installed... Android on wins what could go wrong? I dream about an alphabet Chromebook with space dogs and roving robotic cams installed in my home app.
All my Apple devices on this pic photo didn't include 1 Apple TV or XR iPhone and one Apple Watch 7 should be here next week... love Apple rolling on the floor laughing Is my home pod mini missing pair..

My name was not shown in this pic..
The one major difference I see in Windows 11 from W 10 is you get a second desktop option. That's basically all.
Cripes.

You had something like that under XP with a KVM switch.

Normally, I always had at least 2 machines running at one time.

Sounds like there's an awful lot of code running in the background that makes me wonder what it's doing and who is benefitting.
Epirb,

Can't answer your Win11 size question, but sometimes, if you set your connection to "metered" you can cut down on the automatic "upgrades."
Remember, please don't take it out on the hardware.

I recall the first time I bought a laptop with VISTA installed and was pleased to see nothing but a waiting icon most of the time the machine was one.

"Downgrading" the machine to XP until Win7 could be loaded turned it into a zippy machine.
Correction: "waiting icon most of the time that the machine was on."

GAH!
LOL , laptop wouldn't exist if I had taken to it , hinge never got much use and seized up a bit then broke when I closed it .
Its Lonavo , had more than enough from china last couple of years , I'll keep the charger .
I've been using Linux Mint for about 8 years now, I've found it to be totally reliable, updates appear from time to time, you can select which ones you want, they won't download till you tell them to, they do so in the background without slowing the machine at all, and normally take about 30 seconds.
It's free and doesn't need security software, what's not to like.

Downsides, may not be suitable for people who use a particular (windows based) program, for that I keep an old machine running an old version of windows which I never use on the net. As mentioned above it's maintained by nerds who love to make things more complex than they need to be, so can take a few minutes search to find an easy solution for what you want it to do. From time to time you're offered a new kernel (heart of the system), the folder they're contained in is quite small, so the only maintenance you need to do is delete the old (unused) kernels before updating to a new one, it holds about 6 old ones so no chance of deleting something you actually need.
Yes,

There are some advantages to Linux and you described a lot of them. I offered up Mint as the one which, from within the Linux universe, seems to resemble Windows in its layout and most easily adopted, compared to many other distros.

I've left out the Ubuntu / Debian distinction, along woth FreeBSD, and that dizxying array of subchoices.

Perhaps your discussion might inspire a blog on that topic, useful to many.
Epirb,

Keep watching the main web site @ Apple

As we previously detailed, here’s what we know about the upcoming Mac mini:

Bloomberg has reported that that the new Mac mini will feature specs identical to the new MacBook Pro with up to 64GB RAM, 10-core CPU, and 16 or 32 graphics cores.

Meanwhile, leaker Jon Prosser has reported that Apple’s M1X-powered Mac mini will also introduce a new generation of industrial design. The new Mac mini is said to feature a redesigned external chassis with a reflective “plexiglass-like” material on top paired with an aluminum enclosure.

Prosser has also claimed that the new Mac mini will feature additional ports compared to the current M1-powered Mac mini, including four Thunderbolt 3, two USB-A ports, ethernet, and HDMI. The Mac mini might also use the magnetic power connector that Apple first introduced with the 24-inch iMac earlier this year.

So where would this new Mac mini fit in Apple’s lineup? Currently, Apple sells an M1-powered Mac mini as its entry-level option alongside a higher-end model that is still powered by Intel. It is expected that this M1X-powered Mac mini will replace the Intel model and be sold alongside the M1X configuration.

4:20 am smoke it If you have
If I'm honest I'm somewhat disappointed with macOS Monterey, and was forced to downgrade back to Big Sur.

Many apps failed to work especially torrent software.

Apparently, so many software engineers are on loan to MS to fix Win 11 they have had to postpone Monterey Betas and only developers are able to run it.

But Watch OS 8.3 is amazing
Starting to come together just transferred 70,700 photos and 56,000 files and few programs
