THE MUSE: EDELWEISS – Vol. I
*** Part III: Poetic Pillars – Monads: The Harp ***
[ XXIII ]
*** A line in sand ***
“How is,
O, child,
To draw
A line
In sand?
For thine
- Such land,
While mine,
This quiz; –
*** Root ***
He smiled;
- Though none
But his,
The shore
I walk,
- A sigh
Long gone,
Thou one
Must talk; –
*** Root ***
Yet, raw,
Lime stones,
Sea choirs,
In waves,
They wash; –
Brown crabs
- Seems now
Back home
To rush – ”

*** Just a leaf ***
“In fall,
Cold wind
Blows fast,
Then slow –
I call
A leaf;
- The trees
Look thinned,
And crawl; –
*** Root ***
Pale moon
- Thus glide
Through stones
With musk; –
My heart,
A leaf;
So soon,
To ask
- Of these; –
*** Root ***
But while
Owls came
To watch
Such bride
Of night
I miss,
- This leaf
Hath slept
In wept – ”

*** Each new born ***
“Each
New born
Comes to life
In a cry,
- What is
To learn,
- What is
To teach?
Live or die; –
*** Root ***
Each
New born
Ask to know
What Love is; –
- One say
It’s war,
- One say
It’s peace,
- Hers or his; –
*** Root ***
Each
New born
Then must reach
- To a grave:
Where was
One’s joy,
- Where was
One’s grief?
Here is the speech – ”

*** Grains of wheat ***
“A
Grain
Of wheat
In my hand,
- One
World
At rest,
In each shore
Of my thoughts; –
*** Root ***
Each
Grain
Of wheat
On this land
- Has
Known
The soft word,
Where mild winds
Blown to the mill; –
*** Root ***
Up
There,
To the hill,
- While these stones
Break
Still;
My mind
Seems to count
Grains of wheat – ”

*** Tides ***
“Tides
Of life
Come and go; –
All
Through slides,
Friend or foe,
- For
Each, guides,
Fast, or slow; –
*** Root ***
Tides
In strife,
Rhythm and flow; –
- Time
To grow,
Not take sides,
- High
Or low,
Fields in rife; –
*** Root ***
Tides,
- Thus, change,
Roll or row; –
Stretch
To wides,
So and so, –
In
A sketch,
Shores to plough – ”

*** The oak ***
“The oak
Stands
On guard; –
Watch
Close
Who is woke:
The leaf,
The trunk,
Or the crown; –
*** Root ***
The oak
Lands
To froze,
- Time
Seems
To have shard,
Stiff,
Shrunk,
Winds in soak; –
*** Root ***
The oak
Has
Deep roots; –
Rich
Streams
Fill this earth,
Grief,
Drunk,
Are world’s dreams – ”

*** Bright sun ***
“Bright sun!
- Said
The small child
Of the maid;
Chirp
Of birds,
Far
And mild,
Stirs this heart –
*** Root ***
Could you
Hear
The branch wild
Shake to twirp
Breath
Of spring?
Oh,
Bright sun!
Rays, thou sing; –
*** Root ***
Low clouds
In
The dew ring
New dawn,
- Cliup!!.. –
Bright sun!
In
A slurp
Of shy deer – ”

*** Young, young tree ***
“Young,
Young tree,
From
Deep roots,
Through
Stiff trunk,
Till
Thy crown,
Hear my plea –
*** Root ***
Young,
Young tree,
Thus
On spree,
Branch
Bows down,
While
A monk
Reaps old fruits; –
*** Root ***
Young,
Young tree,
Leaves
Bend shoots,
Throws
Seed [ : ‘s : ] sound,
- Wind
Breaks free,
All bless Thee!.. – ”

*** Turns ***
“Turn
To left
And touch
This
Fern,
- Feel the bliss,
There’s
Much
To learn –
*** Root ***
Turn
To right,
- For there,
A
Snail;
Slide with care, –
Through
Rocks,
It’s trail; –
*** Root ***
Back
And forth,
- In thoughts
Thy
Turn; -
To the fort
- New
Ants
Tie knots; – ”

*** Dust in wind ***
“On
This path
An
Old man
Walks
And talks
With
It’s cane
- In the wind; –
*** Root ***
World
- With wrath,
Judge
And plan,
- Break
Or take
Off
It’s joy,
Let him blind; –
*** Root ***
Once
A boy,
- Now,
Old man; –
Though
They’re mean,
- He
Is kind;
Dust in wind; – ”
